Latest 1/24 scale UH1-C Huey pics!

All I can say is *WOW!* The level of detail you're going for in this kit is simply incredible. I've been modeling for quite a few years and this is by far one of the best jobs I've seen. You've done a good job fabricating/modifying parts as needed. I really can't wait to see the finished results.

What are the measurements on the final assembly? 1/24 scale must really be huge for something as beefy as a Huey...

and to think.....I did more detail on my 1/32 scale helo than on this kit.

The Monogram 1/24 scale Huey is 20 inches long.

If anyone wants this kit my local Hobby shop has about 8 on the shelf at around 27.00 each.

I'm not the type to compare measurements from kit to plans but it looks very good to what I can see in my 1967 dept. of the U.S. Navy Tech book on the UH1-C Huey.
Man that book is about 10 pounds!

I have only seen this kit built two times at contest.....and no matter what they did .....it always looked TOY LIKE to me.....( a problem with 'some' large kits ) So I wanted to see if I could do it diffrently?

Tonight I finished the flight crew's seat belts and! they even hook to the cabin floor. I had a photo etch AUTO seat belt kit that helped out a whole bunch there!

All the plexi (squadron's thermo form) has been pre formed and ready to go into place where the window frames have already been thinned to look more like real sheet metal thickness....the two stabelizers are in place....the rest should be pretty easy.....I still need to scratch build the CARGO hook and its details. The kit does not even have the 'hell hole' cut out...let alone the cargo hook....oh yeah the wiper motors...I gotta do that but thats easy being that they were mostly covered with that padding anyways.

I'll keep ya posted.....If I wasn't so busy this weekend I would almost be done by Sunday!

Awsome work Papa! I also have that bird on my bench. After seeing yours I think I need to go back and rework some things. I like your bench, been giving mine a real hard look. I also redid the floor with the foil tops from peanut butter jars, they had just the right texture I was looking for. Are you planning on removing some panels to expose the engine? I kinda wanted to but wasn't sure if it will be worth the trouble.

Troy, you've done an amazing job on that old kit. I spent way too much time in those birds a long time ago,and you have an eye for detail. You gonna have the can of Ham and Mothers brazed on the 60's receiver? And don't forget the smoke grenades hung on the door post! Good job so far. Keep it up. - Ed

I was originaly going to have my engine doors open but changed my mind.....getting kinda tired of year long projects.
There will be plenty to see through the cooling screens anyways.

I cut the engine exhaust tube off so I can add it later after the bird is painted.....that way I can clean up where the two body sides meet up and possibly use a brass tube or something....to replace it all together.

No guns are planned for this bird as of now.....I wanted to keep it simple......Though I did find some pics of a Huey with that chin turret in my squadron signal book that I have never seen before.

On my 1/32 scale UH1-D I custom built the 60 cal post and mounts with the canvase catch bags and c ration can to keep the belts from jerking in the rotor wash.

Funny I have done more detail on that 1/32 scale Huey than on this kit.....wow.

1/24 miniguns and rocket pods with a chunker up front would just be too cool! Someday I'll build this kit. I've still got 2 Apaches building right now, plus my F Cobra. Wouldn't it be great if we actually had the TIME to build everything we wanted?

I have loved Hooks and Hueys ever since I saw them on the news in the late sixties as a young kid. A cousin of mine was in the Brown water opperations in PBR MKII's and He was picked up a few times in Hueys....always use to say they were the B-17's of the Vietnam War.

A few Hooks and Huey's still pass over my place once and a while...... and there isn't anything like the THUD of those blades!

A-men Papa! Nothing like that sound. Almost musical. The Huey's were rare during my time in the Army. Blackhawks were the norm, but every once in a while you could here that sweet sound off in the distance. She sure was a hardworking, butt kicking, sweet soundin bird.

I like it when the sound of a HOOK on a low fly over rattles your guts!

I lived in the flight path of a Navy helicopter base for my first twenty-five years and in that time I heard a lot of Cobras and Hueys flying over. There's nothing like the sound of them flying overhead-- especially when they're flying low and in formation with others...

An incredible looking bird there, Troy! Absolutely amazing! Looks like a showstopper! I am soooo jealous...

Papa Echo Six Four, you're work thus far is amazing! Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us. I feel like you could flip some switches on your instrument panels and hear that turbine come to life! Superb work. I live close to the Sikorsky plant in Stratford, Connecticut and often see/hear the Blackhawks coming and going. There is no mistaking them for the Wop, Wop, Wop of the Huey -- a sound that none of us who served in RVN will ever forget. Do you think you could tantalize us with some pictures of your 1/32nd UH-1D? I'd love to see your work in a "small scale" as well. Thanks again for convincing me to take another look inside the box of my Monogram 1/24th UH-1.

If you look again at that page you will see an option to see other pages.......there is one called My models ( i think) that has one pic I have of my 1/32 scale UH1--D ...as of right now that is the only one I have.....but on Sunday the 12th I will take some more ( if I have the time).

The huey is GLUED together and ready for the air scoops, antena's and landing skid. I'm almost done!
