Transmission Tilt
Posted by Hatter50 on Monday, July 16, 2007 4:50 PM

Well Mel,

Took me a while but I found a document that finally tells me that the Transmission and Mast forward tilt is only 3 Degrees.  I was a little surprised at that.

Hey Mel,

I found a partial answer to one of my questions.  At least for the UH-1N, the mast foward tilt is 5 degrees.  I will assume that it's the same for the other Hueys.  I just can't confirm that yet.

I also found that the swashplate, again on the N, is rigged 2 1/2 degrees to the left to counteract effect of tail rotor thrust.

I don't remember the exact amount of degrees the mast and transmission tilted forward but think it was more like 7 or 8 degrees.  It was to keep the nose from being tilted down that much more during forward flight.  If you ever flew in a Bo-105 with a fixed rotor it really flew nose down and your were a bit uncomfortable in the rear seats that were against the aft bulkhead.  To see forward you were almost looking through the roof green house.  The front seats were angle back a little bit.

Clear Left!

Steve,
I can't answer question 2, but as for the TK-2 (Temporary Kit 2), it replaced the TK-1 used on Marine UH-34's and was exclusively a Marine mounting system as far as I am aware.  My understanding is that the system allowed the mounting of Air Force rocket pods originally designed for fixed wing aircraft.  The Army used the M156 universal mounting system.  The M156 was also used on HA(L) 3 birds since almost all of them came from the Army. The Air Force UH-1F (actually UH-1P with armamant) that were used by the 20th SOS also used the M156 mounts, at least as far as I have been able to determine from photographs.  I'll try to put up some pics to illustrate these later.

As Long as we are talking about the Hueys....Cowboy [C):-)] Got a coupla questions.....

1.  Was the TK-2 Aramament Rack that the Marines used.....was it also used by the Army?  I have seen nothing that says they did.

2.  I have looked and can't find....what is the foward tilt to the rotormast?

Thanks Guys
