I don't think it is tape. Dimensions are exactly the same in every picture. I can think of a few reasons for it, but the one that makes the most sense is to provide some sort of reference for the pilots.

I swear they show all 11 seasons of MASH every day on three of four stations here.

My brother came home and he let me borrow all 11 seasons of MASH.  In season one there is an episode about the chopper pilot.  It was very useful along with all the pics from you guys.  I try to work on the kit when I'm not sleeping or playing football.

Seems you have the right kit for a MASH-version, Vassar: /forums/597231/ShowPost.aspx

Just curious: what is the function on the black tape on the front of the canopy? It can be seen on the black and white pics of the MASH-machines in this thread. The '47 on the Antony Morgan Walkaround doesn't have it.

My REAL gripe with this kit was the clear bubble. It was just tossed in with no additinoal packaging (thanks Revell) and when I got the kit box open it was deeply gouged by the other kit parts. I broke out the LMG Micro Mesh polish kit and about two nights later ( I polished while waching TV) I was ready for a Future dip.

hardest canopy I have ever repaired, best looking bubble I have ever seen in the end.

Thanks HeavyArty, the pics are very helpful.  I already have a source for decals but I won't need them for awhile.  On the M*A*S*H helicopters in the opening credits there appears to be a piece of sheetmetal on each side of the engine.  That will be easy to construct with some styrene.

According to "H-13 Sioux - Mini in Action" by Squadron/Signal the Army used H-13B's, C's, D's and E's in Korea for Medical Evacuations.

Surprisingly, the Surgeon General of the Army in Korea only had about a dozen of these aircraft in his command.  There were 4 aircraft assigned to each MASH unit, and there were only 3 MASH units in Korea.  I read the same paragraph over 3 times to make sure I understood it.

It's a great little book.  I only paid $1.99 for it used.  Here's a link to it, but the price must be wrong.  It's a tiny little book, but it has alot of useful info and pictures.

The most interesting part was the H-13's development into a gunship and deployment as such in the early stages of US involvement in Vietnam.

You need to maker sure you are looking for a Bell 47D.  There were a few different versions of the Bell 47/H-13 Sioux.  The D model had the flatter, long fuel tank, while other models had two individual fuel tanks.

Here is a walk-around of a 47D with flat tank.

I also have the M*A*S*H decals from the Revell Bell 47G (H-13H) M*A*S*H kit (below) as well.  Let me know if you want them and we can work something out.

Not a bad kit, but it's been years since I built it and don't remember any fit problems. Should have what you need for a MASH bird, except for markings, watch the show to get those, your may need to make or get them from other decal sheets(mainly lettering)

I recently recieved an MRC Bell 47D MASH helicopter.  Are there any problems with this kit such as fit?  Also what would I need to do to make it a 4077th MASH helicopter?  Thanks for your help.
