A few have found their way into private hands.  There's a group called the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation (website http://www.armyav.org/) that operates a group of them in flight demonstrations.  They brought one into Redstone Arsenal earlier this year to show off - prettiest AH-1 I ever saw.  The black US Army color scheme they've chosen is really nice.  You'll also see one or two pop up now and then in movies - there's another operator who's got one or two he operates for films.

Last I heard, there are still a bunch out there waiting to be adopted.  I worked in the Cobra PM years ago, and wouldn't mind one in my back yard either.  They are easier to operate than an Apache, and much, much less expensive.

Not that I know anything of flying helis other then my RCs, but it would seem that way to me. Like the diffrence between hunter 4wheeler and a dirtbike. while one is heavier and much more loaded, the other seems to have justa  good firepower hit and alot more "tossability"

I'll take TWO.

I hear they're a lot easier and a lot more fun to fly than the Apache.

Yes, the whole description is the USMC Whiskey or Zulu model - it mentions the twin T700 engines and hellfire missiles, neither of which was ever flown on this Army AH-1F.

By the way, if you know of anyone else who wants one of these for display, the Army has a whole bunch of them stored away that can be had real cheap.

Looks pretty good.  They got the description on the plaque wrong though.  The Army version AH-1s only had one engine.  The USMC J-W, and forthcoming Z versions are all twin-engined.
