Mi-8/17 Hip in Israeli service ??
Posted by Helo H-34 on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 6:00 PM
Hi everyone , I was reading through one of my military helicopter books and found a small reference as to Israel having a number of Mi-8's in service and are presumably captured Egyptian or Syrian machines used for evaluation and propaganada purposes . I have a Revell 1/72 scale kit in my stash I would like to use , but I'm unsure as to what color scheme it should be . Would the helicopter retain it's original Egyptian/Syrian camouflage scheme but have Israeli markings or would the Israeli's re-paint the aircraft in their own camouflage ??

Hi again everyone , After spending a couple hours on the net last night looking at pic's of Mi-8's and I suspect many of you guys may have done the same in trying to assist me with my inquiry {which I greatly appreaciate} the only reference I could see was a Decal Sheet by a company called Begemot-BEG 7212 Mil Mi-8/17 Hip,13 options including Israeli markings for US$7.99 ,from Lindenhillimports.com . Unfortunatly They require a minimum $15 order for oversea's customers and I estimate around $10-$12 postage ;plus difference between the Australian doller to the U.S . I'm probable looking at close to $30 in total , twice the price of the kit . I have plenty of spare Israeli insignia's in my decal stash and I presume the rest of the markings are the same as what is on the decal sheet that came with the kit . So I guess I'll put the project aside for a while until I or someone else come's across a pic of a IDF/AF Mi-8.Thank's again to everyone who searched for pic's for me . Kind regards Helo 53.

   OK,

"Begemot" is a Russian decal company run by one man - Andrey Kotkov (aka Kotey on ARC)

I suspect since he made the decals for Israeli Hip, he might have based his design on some sort of reference. I know him - he doesnt "make up" things from the air.

Try to contact him and ask - maybe he will be able to help you.

Hi,

Here's the www.

http://begemotdecals.ru/index.php?lang=2

You might be able to buy direct but if not there seem to be some outlets in asia which might be cheaper than from the US. Good luck, that Iraeli bird looks great (you can download the insrtruction sheets for the decals from the www above).

Thanks Rich , that web site link was exactly what I needed . I printed off a copy of the Israeli Mi-8T , It shows the Helicopter without the cargo doors attached . Fortunatley I have 2 Revell 1/72 scale Mil Mi-8 kits in my stash , one with the rear doors moulded on the fuselage sides and the other kit has the doors seperate . I was about to start the first-older kit next but thankfully the link you provided me ,saved me a lot of heart-ache if I found out afterwards I should of used the later released version-with the seperate rear doors .Also the instructions gave out the correct FS. color numbers , Blue undersides FS 35177 and Sand fuselage sides and top FS 23711. I am so greatfull for the help . Kind regards Helo 53

Hi,

Glad it was of some help. Just out of interest which kit has the seperate rear doors. I have a couple Mi-8/17 kits and the doors are moulded in on both? Thanks,

Rich

The Revell kit with the seperate doors is Kit No. 04477.This kit has 3 decal options ,one NVA version, one German Army 1999,one Soviet Army-East Germany 1990. The cockpit includes both the cyclic and pitch control-collective sticks . On the earlier released kit no. 4423 , the cockpit only has the cylic control sticks . However the earlier kit does include two different engine housing and exhausts which seams to be identical to the Italeri kit no. 021 , which is marketed as Mil Mi-8/17 HIP. Perhaps the kits you have can be built as either version ??

I forget to add that the Revell kit 04477 also has exterior boarding steps - a nice touch.

Hi,

Many thanks for that. It just shows how bad my memory is or too many kits in the stash!! I have both those kits in the loft but haven't looked at them since I bought them last year. I thought both had their rear doors moulded in. Maybe I should spend less time on the pc and more time building!!!

Thanks again,

Rich
