Australian Army Huey Decals?
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Friday, November 23, 2007 12:05 AM

I just bought the 1/35 Dragon UH-1D kit with the figures and full etching set.. Any good?

And so the decals that come with the kit are for a German Huey, and as for other markings the decal sheet is very sparse..

I want to make my own decals as I have decal printer paper. But I want to know if anyone has a file of the decals that can be downloaded and printed..  I want to do the markings of an Australian Army huey with all the other marking that are on there aswell...

Also, what will I need to do in order to make this kit into a UH-1H?.. Interested to know how many people have built this kit and have pics they can show.. Would love to get some feedback..

I have built two in the Panda boxings.  They are pretty good.  The biggest issues are the large rivets, lack of interior details, and the incorrect rotor blade, it is a 212, UN-1N rotor blade. I recommend the Cobra Company interior and drive train upgrade sets for it.

I don't know of any ready-made decal files, but Hawkeye models out of Australia has decals for them.

Check the stickied Huey posts post at the top of the page for a review of the Dragon kit and a thread on D and H differences.  You really have to have a pic to work from as well since the H has changed over the years too.

Here are mine:

And a UH-1H SAR helo from White Sands Missile Range in a Hi-Vis/Arctic scheme.

More here.

I am liking them more and more.  The new Dragon boxing helps take care of some of the interior details that were lacking in the Panda boxings.  They still need a bit of work to make them look good though.  I have a few more in the stash too and am looking forward to building them.

Good luck.

For the decals, try   leeroyofoz   on eBay.  I've dealt with him several times and I think he is the primary distributor or manufacturer of Hawkeye decals and parts.  Or some type of involvement with them, anyway.  The decals are very easy to work with, if not just tad bit thick, but, the snug down easy and a couple of coats of Future solves that.

Thanks guys, I am going to try and print the decals myself.. I just need pictures of the different markings such as warning signs as well as the army markings.. I have gathered alot of pics, no real close up picks of the different markings, so hoping someone might have something that shows everything..

 Cheers, Chris

Thanks for that.. Thats a pretty cool sight.. I grew up at Amberley when we had the Huey's, so I was going to do it in a RAAF livery, but decided to it in the Army livery before it was retired.. Just started the dragin kit and loving it...
