Hi FG! First off, I'm sorry you lost your dad, he was WAY too young to die. I got assigned to Illeshiem Germany/6-6 Cav about 5 months after the accident, and all I can say about your dad is that he was one of the most respected aviators in the Army. Him and David Gibbs will be remembered in Army aviation forever. I didn't get the chance to work with them, but the respect and legacy they left behind is still famous with the folks of the 6/6,2/6, and 7-159 Aviation units in Illesheim and the entire Army.
As for the color schemes of the Apaches of the Six Shooters, their standard Army "CARC" green or Army Drab colors, although some of our aircraft had some "nose art" if you will, like the Ace of Spades painted on the vertical stab. Some of the aircraft had triangles, circles and some had squares painted in white on the engine nacelles, etc. I have a few pictures of the aircraft, although in the other house, when I get them, I'll scan a few and send them to you. (unless you get some before that!) Very nice "meeting" the son of a legend! Rich.
