Monogram Huey

February 2006 issue of FineScale Modeler (who would have thought?). Page 38, 'Stretching Monogram's giant Huey', by Kirk Williams. How do do exactly this. Except maybe he didn't really try to keep the tailboom the correct length.

Thanks for the replys. I'm not too worried about interior details, whether I built it as the B or D model I planned on scratchbuilding a lot of interior details because the kit details are horrible for such a large scale, guess I have to take the age of the kit into consideration...my main concern is getting the fuselage right, even the tail boom extension/angle won't be so bad as long as I can figure out how much to lengthen the cabin...i have the measurement, its more or less where to add it/what to cut away.

I did it using two C models and a Revell H in 35th/32nd so I could come up with a good 35th scale D/H model.  It works, but its an incredibly difficult conversion.  In 24th, unfortunately, you could do it, but you don't have the D/H parts to steal for the tail and forward cowling, nor the rotor head to really make it accurate.

You'd have a lot of scratchbuilding with a lot of compound curves.  It CAN be done, but it will be really hard.

Lots of work.  The blades and rotor head have to be changed as well.  The tail is also different in shape and at a different angle, it needs lots of detail added on the interior, the whole engine cowling is different, etc, etc, etc.....

 

You would be much better off getting either the Revell 1/32 UH-1D/H or the Dragon 1/35 UH-1D/H kits.
