G'Day All

I am thinking about getting this kit.

Does the pavehawks carry Miniguns or some other types of MG?

Allso does this kit include the miniguns?

Cheers

Wooty I have looked at that kit also.. I was told its the closest for doing the Aussie Blackhawk, (or maybe I was told wrong) Anyways, is there an Aussie Blackhawk on the horizon mate?. Very interested in seeing where you go with that. I cant find any built 1/35 Aussie Blackhawks online..

What a coincidence: just these days I dug out my 1/35 Pave Hawk and contiuned to work on it!

To answer your questions: yes, The Pave Hawk carries miniguns and they are included in the kit, but are as usual not 100% accurate. You could replace them with Cobra Co's minigun kit.

The kit also contains a pair of Browning M2 .50cal, which are supposed to be mouted in the door ways.
These machine guns are actually never installed on the field, because, being in the door way, they would hinder the rescue operations.

Chris,

Thats right not many Aussie Blackhawks on the net, but hopefully soon i will get some progress of my 1/35 Blackhawk in Aussie colors.

Avus,

Thanks for the heads up so no .50s in doorway. As for the miniguns would the Eduard detail sets correct them as i have just ordered the Interior, Exterior and Cargo seat belts sets.

All so what colors would be appropiate for OIF

Cheers

No idea on the Eduard sets.  I just added bits and pieces to mine to make them more accurately detailed.

For colors, there are 3 schemes that are/were used in OIF.  The older Euro 1 camo (as seen on the boxtop) is still in limited use.  The most common now is overall Gunship Gray, also called AFSOC (Air Force Special Operations Command) Gray. There were also a few in a three-color desert camo similar to 3-color DCUs from Davis-Monthan (D-M) AFB and Patrick AFB Air Force Reserve SAR units in OIF 1 as well.  You can see my D-M HH-60G build here.

There are quite a few bits and pieces that need to be added to bring it up to current standards as well.   You can see most of them on my in-progress shots too.  Do a search for it and you can follow the build.

Good luck.

I presume you got the sets for the Pave Hawk and not for the "plain" Black Hawk, like I did.

Anyhow the only thing Eduard added are the flash suppressors, so no big deal. Cobra's set is more accurate even though they still lack the spent shell dispenser.

As for me I bought Cobra's "Black Hawk Weapons Set" (miniguns), "MH/HH-60G Update and detail set" and "UH-60L Correction and detail set" and Eduard's interior and exterior for the Pave Hawk (yes, I now have a UH-60 potoetch set that I won't use!Banged Head [banghead]).
This way I'll use some resin parts and some photoetch on the interior (some parts are redundant) and almost only photoetch on the outside. None the less I still had some scratchbuilding to do to improve some detail.

G'day Robert, I have 2 of the Big academy hawk kits (one MH-60G and a DAP) and am a big advocate of them both. As far as the armament on the Pave's goes from what I have seen there are 2 options. I have seen lots of photo's armed with the window mounted Miniguns but also many with the .50 Cal in the same position. As far as I can figure the Mini's were the initial weapon put to use on the G models but through later upgrades in the airframe there is a great big a** mount located on the side of the fuselage underneath the window with the Ammo box external to the Aircraft. so I guess if your doing a recent aircraft the decision is yours whether to go Mini's or .50. I have also seen one photo of an MH-60G in the Desert scheme from Desert Storm with both the miniguns in the cabin windows and at least one .50 in the cabin door on the Port side as portrayed in the Acadsemy kit however it did look as though it was ony the single gun none on the Starboard side (I guess it would get in the way when hoisting) but as I said I have only ever seen one pic of this config it may very well have been a trial.

Hope this helps you out a little

cheers Cairnsy

P.S. Chris if you are looking to build an Aussie S-70A-9 I would recommend the AH-60L DAP kit that one has the correct Stab (same as the MH-60G stab) but also includes the ESSS wings with external fuel tanks and also the troop seating which the pave hawk leaves out, All you would need to add would be the Emplaning step under the cabin doors and leave off M-60 guns and find some MAG-58/M240 guns instead hope that helps you also.

Avus, The only UH set i got are the cargo seatbelt set, the other two sets are the MH/HH-60G sets

i am seriously thinking about getting the CC upgrades but for it though, also adding PE here and there.

Cairnsy, I was thinking of doing just that, having hoist system one side .50 cal in the other.

With paint work as Desert Scheme.

Should Look Alright.

Will Keep Y'all Posted.
