The Revi sheet is pretty cool.  I'm still debating on which markings to use.  I'll definitely build "Pandora's Box", just need a 48th scale XM-35 system to put on her.  I may end up getting a Legend F-105 gun bay just to steal the cannon and then scratchbuild the rest!

Ray, helonewb, I have sheet 48-11 and its pretty rough. I would go with the fireball modelworks and use 48-11 only if you need supplementary decals that the FBM doesnt provide. I dont have it in front of me so I cant compare it but I know the older MS sheet is , well, MUCH older.

Ray is right on the Golf. I have one, its a bugger and I will have to pretty much scratch a cockpit for it as well as a ton of other details but general shape is generally good.  You were much more likely to see Loaches in the Pink Teams rather than supporting Slicks (unlike Acroco5hitNow) .  HTH some. The 1/48 Loach is a cutie!

Grab one of the DML 1/35 birds, they are a blast!

Revi Decals- sheet 48 001 is a sheet titled 'Hunter Killer' and features an OH-6A '16135' of the 101st Air Asault Division, armed with a mini-gun. Standard Nam' Loach finish with a pair of crossed sabres on the dog-house.

Helonewb,

First of all, welcome to the forums.  As far as 1/48 OH-6 decals go, the only sheets I know of are the 1/48 Microscale sheet (48-11) and those offered by Fireball Model Works (http://webpages.charter.net/osborn82/fmd-12.htm).  Actually the Fireball sheet is for a Navy TH-6B and wouldn't be appropriate for your diorama. unfortunately, the Microscale decals are for the US Army Silver Eagle Flight Demonstration Team and wouldn't work for a diorama either.  Maybe there is something else, but I'm not aware of it.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  josephs decals are awesome, so i would get as many as you think will work for your builds. Good luck with your build!

As for the diorama, OH-6's flew with both armed UH-1B/C Hueys and, more commonly, AH-1G  Cobras in Hunter-killer teams called Pink Teams (Guns-red)+(observation-white).  The UH-1D/H was used primarily as a transport helo and would not have been part of a Hunter-Killer Pink Team.  unfortunately, 1/48 AH-G's are few and far between with the aweful Fujimi and somewhat less aweful Aurora kits making up you sum total of choices as far as I know.  I don't mean to be discouraging, just giving you the data as i see it.

For your UH-1D, Fireball Modelworks has an excellent set of decals in 1/48:

The sheet also comes with bonus numbers and insignia that may be useful on your Cayuse (like AirCav and Airborne insignia).

1/48 OH-6A Cayuse Vietnam
Posted by helonewb on Sunday, February 10, 2008 1:48 PM

All,

I just got a 1/48 OH-6A Cayuse conversion set for the Academy kit (Hughes 500).  I got it because the conversion set itself was pretty inexpensive, and the modifications seem easy (QuickBoost 48 145 available from Great Models Webstore).  Beside the Fujimi Cayuse seems pretty hard to find.

I am toying with the idea of building a diorama, set in VietNam, with a couple of 1/48 helos.  I have the Italeri UH-1D and the Monogram Hog.  I also have an old Monogram HH53 "Vietnam Rescue".  I also have some CMK figures.

Question is: does anyone know of good decals for these models, particularly for the Cayuse?  Ideally, I'd like to depict the UH-1D and Cayuse together in a Vietnam settings.  Does it make sense? I am a pretty inexperienced modeller, and don't think I could super-detail cockpits and such, but recommendations would be welcome anyway.
