Okay, you purists out there will probably shoot me, but I'm going to go ahead and paint my OH-58D in MM Sand, FS33531; my research indicates NO armed OH-58D's were ever painted that color, but I'm going to do it anyway because I think it'll look good (plus, it just makes sense considering where most of them are operating these days). I'll try & post pictures as soon as I am able, though I've been having problems with PhotoBucket lately.

 I'll keep y'all posted . . . .

Unarmed OH-58Ds of 4/2 ACR were tan during ODS, but I don't have any info on OIF OH-58Ds.

Yep, that pic made it into the book too!

The sand painted Warriors are on pages 7 and 9. The book is Squadron-Signal's Walkaround No. 50, color series.

Hey guys, I checked Floyd Werner's new Kiowa Walkaround book tonight, and there are two photos of sand painted OH-58D's!! Both are from Hotel Company, 4th Brigade, 3rd Aviation Regiment in Desert Storm. Only bummer is that they are unarmed. According to the book, the weapons kits were still new at the time, and none of the Warriors received them before being shipped overseas.

Excellent info, AH1Wsnake! Thank you very much; I will try and track down that book at my LHS this week (they have a pretty good selection of reference material).

In all of my internet searches, I was only able to find one "sand" colored Kiowa; but the only reason it was sand colored was because a sandstorm had just blown through the area. Everything was sand-colored in the picture, so I didn't think that was a very accurate reference. Here it is:

10/4, that's what I thought; I guess I'm dipping into my bottles of FS34031. Thanks!

OH-58D In Sand FS33637?
Posted by SoD Stitch on Monday, February 18, 2008 12:17 PM

Has anybody out there ever heard of, or seen, an OH-58D Armed Kiowa in anything other than US Army Helo Drab (FS34031)?

I am in the process of building Academy/MRC's 1/35th "Thugs" OH-58D, and I would rather be a little different, and paint it in something other than FS34031. I know there were a few Blackhawks that got painted in Sand during the Gulf War, but I can find no record of any Kiowa's being painted in anything other FS34031. It seems to me that, with our heavy involvement in the ME right now, there would have been at least passing consideration given to painting the OH-58D in either FS33531 or 33637.

Thanks in advance for any help or direction you can give me.
