Revell 1/72 Seaking Mk. 41 finished *lots of pix*

That's a beauty!  You're quite justified to be proud of your handiwork.  The paint is very well done and your use of the fine wash really make the kit's surface details pop out.  I have one of these kits in my pile and after seeing your finished model I want to build it!  Alas, too many other projects are in the way.

The time you spent on that rotor head really paid off. It's great to see a Sea King in German colours for a change. It looks like a really good kit to build with loads of detail and the stencilling being the icing on the cake. Thanks for sharing your build with us. I have a couple of Airfix Sea Kings in the stash but one will be cut up and used on an HH-3. Have you  built the Airfix kit? How does it compare?

Awesome delov , the rotor hub detail is truly excellent . I was wondering what type of cable or thread did you use for the antenna . The attachment of the cable to the small struts which stick out from the fuselage are the best I've ever seen , very neat indeed . On my HH-3E Jolly I just used some black thread but where I tied it to each small strut it doesn't look right . I would like to change what I've done and replace it with what you did delov . Again well done   . Oh I should also mention that I built an Airfix seaking last year , I managed to get the kit together but it's not the best fit around the front cockpit halves , I ended up using lots of superglue and sanding of the nose section and lost quite a lot of surface detail . The Airfix canopy isn't very accurate and the rotor blades are just plain awefull . I replaced mine with some from an old Revell seaking I had scrapped some time ago and fortunatly I had kept most of the bits and pieces to use as spares . I haven't got around to airbrushing the Airfix seaking as yet , it's ready to mask but I'm concentrating on other projects . I certainly would not buy another Airfix/Heller seaking . About the airfix kit-- I do not have it so, I don't know how it would compare to this one.  I have the feeling that this kit is a re-box of the Hasegawa issue, but I am not sure, it just has a Hasegawa feel to it.  About the antena wire-- it is made from stretched sprue attached with superglue to the struts.  The little bumps on each side are tiny drops of superglue.  I have tried using thin fishing line but I found that it is hard to attach to things, so stretched sprue works for me.

I really like the weathering and exhast staining.  The rotor head is nice too - I might try to add something like that to my already built version of the same kit. 

I've built both the Airfix kit and this same RoG kit.  My only comments are that the airfix kit is a bit less detailed on the exterior, and alot less detailed on the interior.  I had some trouble with the Airfix windscreen that was corrected by sawing about a 1/16" section out of the middle of it with a hacksaw blade.  If you place the cut correctly, you don't notice it once the framing is painted.  If you don't cut something out - then the windscreen is too wide and hangs over the sides of the fuselage.

If this is the 1/72 kit, it's pure Revell Germany. Revell reboxed the 1/48 Hasegawa SH-3H, but Hasegawa has never done a 1/72 Sea King.

The Airfix SH-3 is ancient. I believe it came out in about 1968 or so. It's light years behind the Fujimi kits of the mid-1980s, and even more light years behind the excellent Revell kit. But note that the Revell kit represents a Westland Sea King, not a Sikorsky machine. There are numerous detail differences, so building a Sikorsky, Fuji, or Augusta Sea King takes some work.
