RAN Seasprite project cancelled!!
Posted by leemitcheltree on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 8:13 PM

The Australian Defence Minister, Joel Fitzgibbon, has just announced the $1 billion Seasprite contract with Kaman has been cancelled!!

I wonder what the RAN is going to use in their frigates, because apparently the Seahawks just don't fit....

Doesn't look like I'll end up being able to model an operational RAN Seasprite after all......

Cheers, LeeTree

Yeah but the Kiwi ones were not upgraded as much as the Aussie ones!!!! I wonder if they are going to blame the previous government when it was Kim Beazley who ordered them in the first place!!!! At least we can build a what if!! I was lucky enough to see 2 of them flying, and last week saw a C-17 out of Albatross. That was a sight!!Tongue [:P]

I'm sure that we can sell you some 'one careful owner' Lynx HAS.8s Smile [:)] More than good enough for any threat you're likely to encounter.

Cheers,

Chris.

Yeh, well funny you should say that Chris. Given the amount of work the RAN got out of the Wessex, I'm more than a little surprised we didn't opt for the Lynx - or even the Puma for that matter. And the gov't (doesn't matter which one) wonders why the ADF & the public ridicule them for their hair-arsed decisions

Surely the Puma is to big for the ANZAC flight deck Shaun?

In this case, so far as the Sprite "upgrade" is concerned the ADF may want to look internally for the 'hair-arsed decisions'...could have had them flying and in-service years ago if they weren't trying to gold-plate the damn things...

The RAN will be using the MRH-90 as well as the Seahawks. Apparently there isn't any difference between the Navy and the ARA MRH's, and they might be rotated around.
