AH-1W SuperCobra
Posted by hawkwrench on Thursday, March 6, 2008 11:31 PM
I've started on my 1/35 scale AH-1W SuperCobra from MRC last week and I finally am able to post in progress pics(I think!).First I took and scratchbuilt pieces together from a UH-60 Hawk to make a T700 engine minus the fuel lines, wiring and injectors. Also I walled in the front of the exhaust module.Next time I'll finish the module wall with details and begin to work on the engine mounts.Hope you like it and hope the pics post!

Please do.  Looking forward to it.  I'm still waiting for someone (Intruder Bass - Andy?) to show us more of his scratch built tranny and engine.  I'm in the same boat.  I started opening panels a year ago and never found a good stopping point.

What's he working on,a Cobra? If so I'm looking forward to it.I really am looking for more of his MH-47 pics.He blows me away with his detail he's put into it already.I forgot to mention that I relented and am building a NTS bird with Twobobs decals for it.My search for ODS decals was basically nil.I had a couple of offers but I decided to build the NTS after I saw the decals for it.Way too cool with the shark mouth!I ordered CC's NTS upgrade, the decals I told you,and need to order the exterior photoetch set still.Hopefully I'll get it done by the Region 4 convention in Ohio in April.

Thanks for showing interest in my work! I am planning to get back to Cobra soon. Just way too busy right now. My workbench is a mess! Actually it looks more like a shipyard LOL! 3 ships and one sub on the go! (I am in the "nostalgic" NAVY mood right now)

Here is my latest (finished) model

Sorry for a little offtop - back to choppers now...

I remember being awed by the detail when you posted it the first time.  I was right in the middle of doing the same thing.

Are you talking about rounding the profile out more?  I'd love to see that.  I started modifying one.  I'll try to find it and take pics.  I cut out the stabs and mounted them on a tube.  They even move now.

Kidd (I think)Way too much photoetch details for me to tackle but who knows,I might get brave someday.

Randy, I will take some pics sometime soon. I don't know if it is perfect, but I laminated some strip styrene stock to the bottom of the tailboom and faired it in with some Squadron green putty. The profile definitely appears improved, but do not know if the pictures will do it justice.
