Pics for the Whiskey Lovers!
Posted by rotorwash on Sunday, March 9, 2008 3:29 PM

I have noticed there are several threads about AH-1W's going strong around here. I didn't want to hijack anyone's thread so I thought I'd put a few pics up in a seperate post.  These are from the Heroes Take Flight airshow at the Auburn-Opelika airport this weekend. This bird just came back from Iraq and will be returning based on what I was told. As you can see she sports the latest engine mods and upgrades. Anyhow, I hope you like 'em and I'm sorry for the people that were in the way some times!

Glad you guys like the pics. any interest in UH-1N or SH-60B? They were there fresh off active duty as well.  I have about 100 pics of the Huey (of course) and quite a few of the Seahawk.  I figure I better photograph every helo I see from now on as there is always someone looking for them.  Just let me know if you want more.  Although, I posted all the Whiskey pics I have right now.

Who Ray you nailed it on that new retrofit exhaust! That Y shaped duct is the new elusive one that is not represented in kits, and was planned and may be going onto the Zulu and Yankee.

If you have any more shots of that exhaust duct send 'em. All I have are protoype shots and mock-ups!

This is what I find at all airshows.

Bring a jet. Yawn....seen it dozens of times on TV.

Bring a Snake or a Slick.....instant attrraction!

David,

I'm still kicking myself that i didn't take more pics of that exhaust!  I knew it was the o ne for the Yankee and Zulu, but I just didn't get any great shots.  Here is the only other one I have that might help with modeling it.  The first is the full shot, the second is a cropped version with focus on the exhausts.  Trust me, if i see one of these again you'll have a COMPREHENSIVE walkaround!

David,

The turned exhaust is getting more common.  Go to usmc.mil and search the image archive for AH-1W sorted newest first and you will get a few decent model detail level pictures.

Ray,

Thanks for sharing.

I've got 3 major scratchbuilding projects going right now, one of them being the turned exhausts in 48th.  I think the exhaust section will end up being a drop-in deal, so it will be castable in resin.  heh heh heh....

uhhhhhh YAH send those November and Bravo pics. Nothing like fresh use stainage to print and put next to your kit for those never-werked-on-em's at contests that say that "helicopters dont GET that dirty in real life" (boy have I argued that one!!!)

Lay it in on us Ray, lay it in...best yet, burn me a CD ! :D

Supercobra

thanks much, Im nailing that link down for good measure and grabbing the pics.

This is the kind of photo that I REALLY dig, something has been changed on the A/C and it stands out from the rest of the machine. I have a pic on myown walkaround page on HoverLovers Model Page of a November with two different types of LOVIS warning stencil in front of the intake (half solid, half outline and they dont match up--differnent forward doghouse from a different ship).

Thanks!!

Once I finish the 48th scale TOW Huey and HH-3E that I'm doing, I'll get back to those exhausts.
