HelikitNews.com - a good resource
Posted by dahut on Sunday, March 9, 2008 7:12 PM

I was looking up some tidbit on the UH-60 yesterday and ended up on HeliKitNews.com. While I know this site is surely old news to many of you, I found the site pretty interesting. I spotted Gino's name among the contributors list. For those who dont know about it, it is dedicated to helicopters and the many scale model kits of them available.

At Helikitnews.com, you'll find updates on current issue kits and makers, updates and release announcements on aftermarket stuff, decals, books and so on, all dedicated to scale helicopter modeling. I especially liked their coverage of Eastern European makers and they have a fully searchable archive of past issues.

If you're interested in helicopter models and have never

visited HKN, jot on over and check it out.

Cheers, David

I have been wondering aout HKN. They havent had an update since May last year, when updates were fairly regular in the past. Does anyone know if HKN will continue? Surely it's not a lack of heli kit news which has caused the silence?

Hope we hear from them again soon anyway.

I have wonderd the same. the forum there seems to have almost hourly updates by members just like ehre but I found onthing in thier forums about it going defunct. It was a great resource put on by knowledgeable people who either did tons of research or served with the machines.

You can still browse the past entries and will find it a great resource as Sunnas says above.

Gentlemen,

Chris Jones of HKN is a member of my local model club in Aberdeen, Scotland.  He has been exceptionally busy at work (internationally) and has a very busy home life.  I can assure you that he is still beavering away behind the scenes and will return with updates when he can.  Keep the faith!

There are three helicopter specific modeling forums I have been part of since their inception.  Not to offend anyone here but I have to say HKN is my favorite.  Especially when I'm too busy to regularly visit.  Here are a few reasons:

International diversity (in terms of aircraft, products, and contributors)

Nice mix of civil and military

Posters use real names and email addresses

More mature (because of above?)

Accurate answers (because of above?)

No post individual counter or rating system - posting BS doesn't earn you rank

More on topic posts (because of above?)

Most people only ask for help after the have exhausted the search function (not the same old question over and over)

That's my two cents.  Not trying to diss this site or the fine people on here - just telling you why I like HKN.   It's funny becasue if even they don't use their real name here or on ARC I can still tell (from personality, temper, or build subject) who certain people they frequent all three sites.

Great news Colin. Thanks for the update.

If you speak to Chris, let him know how much we appreciate his contribution to the hobby.

Cheers

Sunnas,

Will do.  I hope to see him at the Scottish Nationals in Perth, Scotland, at the end of April.
