1/24th Huey question
Posted by NASA 736 on Friday, May 9, 2008 11:51 AM

Somebody has most likely asked this before, but I'll throw it out there anyway... Does anybody know if there are any "after market" accessories available for Revell/Monogram's big 1/24th UH-1?

I have one that I got for a birthday present, and am looking to do it as a Viet-Nam era bird.

Regards,

Chuck

I don't know of anything other than decals for it.  There were a set of Army decals for it, but I think the are long OOP.  Check with Joseph Osborne at Fireball Modelworks, he has decals to make it into a US Navy Seawolf bird in Vietnam.

No aftermarket products for it. You really shouldn't need anything....it's already VietNam era.

If you are looking for instrument panel gauges, seatbelt harnesses, etc, try the 1/24 scale car aftermarket section of your local hobby shop. Some aftermarket items for 1/24 scale aircraft kits may also be useful.

Also search this forum for '1/24 Huey'. There are some very good discussions of this kit.

I've got a couple of those in my stash too. I built one a while back mostly OOB. I want to do another one with more detailing. The one thing I did add to the first one was a better interior insulation. I used a section of KimWipe soaked in a solution of water and white glue. Once it was placed into position and dried, I painted it.

She's in need of a lot of repair. She's suffered a couple of crashes thanks to a accidental bump from one of my sons and a move to a new house. I built her proably 12 years ago.

She was suppose to be my Hollywood movie version of a SOG bird hence her name "Hollywood Huey" .

The next two will get the same insulation in the interior with a lot more detailing to the avionics, comm gear as well as specialized cargo items.

Another area that is in desperate need of detailing on the interior is the inside of the B pillar, the narrow fuselage section behind the pilots doors.  They should be squared off on the inside and have various holes and fittings on them.  You can see them in the pic below.  The long , darker gray pieces under the doors on the left side.  This is a pic from the Cobra Company 1/35 UH-1D update/correction set.
