Monogram 1/24 Huey-request for Help
Posted by tango35 on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 11:26 AM
Hey folks,
won last weekend on an auction 2 of this Helicopters. This will be my first Helo and i want to convert it to an UH-1C. So as i heard the Rotorhead is a B-model and the tail is incorrect, too.

Does anyone can give me help for the correction and maybe references.

greets

Thomas

Like I said over at Aeroscale:

Sorry, there are no correction sets in that scale fo rit. It is pretty lacking on detail on th einterior too. Unless you just have to have a 1/24 scale UH-1C, I wouldn't worry about correcting it. The better option is to get a 1/35 scale Academy C model. They are great kits and full of accurate details.

Good luck.

Thomas,

Just to reinforce Ginos comment, here are the schematics for the UH-1B rotorhead (204 head) compared to the UH-1C rotorhead (540 head).  Very different designs, plus the UH-1C rotor had a 27 in. chord while the UH-1B had a 21 inch chord blade.  Lots of other differences that have been rehashed  abunch here in the forum.  Check the Huey links page.  Good luck with the build.

You would be better off building it as a B model

As has been pointed out, the rotor and rotor head are a 'B' model, and will require A LOT of work. The fin will need to be made 6 inches longer, as measured from the last tailrotor driveshaft cover panel, and have a curve (camber) added. The Elevators also need to be lengthened 8 inches in chord, and the airfoil needs to be changed to one that is flat on top. I have been lucky enough to have access to both a 'B' and a 'C' to take measurements and pictures, because I wanted to do the same thing.....s'not easy. If I can ever find them again, I'll post pictures.

As HeavyArty noted, the Academy/MRC  'C' model kits will really show the differences. This model (from the  links to huey treads at the top of the forum page) will give you some great shots....
