Does a 1/48 or larger CH-54 Sky Crane exsist???
Posted by russianfist on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 12:22 PM

I remember building A CH-54 when I was a kid but I beleive it was 1/72 scale.

Because it's my fav of the rotary wings I would like to find one.

Well that and the Hind in 1/35 but that's not in the budget at this time.

You got a telegram from headquarters today. Headquarters--what is it? Well, it's a big building where generals meet, but that's not important right now. [ img] f_armorsecretm_ac7eb73[/ img]

As a kid I always loved that bird to, there were several assigned to the National Guard unit here. Never could find one in anything bigger than 1/72nd. I hope we both can find one here!

I don't think that there is a commercial kit available, the only Skycrane in 1:48 I know of is this scratchbuilt model:

I don't know of any models. The scratch built one is pretty awsome. I have some cool pics that I will post on a seperate thread in just a sec. Of an actual skycrane being flown in to the 1st Cav Museum at Fort Hood. The Number was traced back to the one represented by the Scratch built model. Guess what was used to fly it in?

If you are inclined to give a scratchbuild a try, Erickson bought the design from Sikorsky and now rebuilds old airframes and builds new airframes. They have a good attitude towards modelers. Some info is on their website and they invite emails if you need something not provided.
