Posted by raptordriver on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 10:19 AM

Hi guys, we were just driving to Salt Lake Utah. And when we were driving through Park City which is on the way, There were tons of Police at the high school. We thought something bad had happened, but then we heard that the president was coming! So we waited a little bit then heard the roar of awsome helicopters! I got some pics here they are.

Great pics,

Thanks for sharing.  I love the big Glossy Green CH-53E.  To the best of my knowledge, the VH-60 is for Dubya and the 53 is for press and other VIP's.

You are correct, Chris.  The Boss flies on the -60s, or the H-3s.  All the press and associated VIPs ride along on the -53s, or 46s, depending on what kinda trip it is.  Oh, and us poor maintainers ride the 53s and 46s too, along with all our gear.  Nothing like a cross country from Virginia to Kansas in a CH-46 to make you appreciate commercial aviation.

I have to disagree with you about cross countries.  Sure I was always on 53's but we'd have alot of fun.  From NC to AZ or CA was nothing but fun.  We'd have a few beers and raise a little heck where ever we stopped.  I saw my SSgt get booted from a bar in San Antonio.  We'd flirt with the Ladies of the United States Air Force all across the country.  Cross countries were great.

Haven't done a cross country on a -53 yet, but I'd imagine that it's a lot more fun than a '46 since IMHO the '53 rides like a Cadillac compared to getting beat to death by a -46.  As a matter of fact, I just got through aviation physiology (dunk tank) and as soon as I get put on flight orders, will hopefully start crewing 53s as an A/O.  Had the choice to go 46s and get my wings faster since they do more flights here, but I'm kinda partial to the big iron.

Back on topic, nice pics there.  Good luck finding a kit of a VH-60N that's halfway accurate without a lot of scratchbuilding.  I did Academy's offering in 1/48 not too long ago, and while it was an OK kit, was only about 70% correct for a White Top.
