Looking at 1/35th UH-1N
Posted by Yamafreak72 on Saturday, June 28, 2008 2:42 PM

Gents,

I'm looking at maybe building Dragon's 1/35 UH-1N in USMC colors, anybody have any thoughts/experience with this kit?  From what little I can see online, it's got two miniguns, when it should have a .50cal on one side, and the rocket launchers are wrong, but overall is it worth the $36 (shipped) price?

It isn't too bad. I think it is worth the money. It does need some work though.

Basically, you can scrap the weapons. They are totally incorrect for a USMC UH-1N. The miniguns and their mounts are not even modern ones, they are Vietnam era versions. Cobra Company has a couple update sets that will bring it up to modern standards and provide the correct weapons.  Check out this thread for more info on what other fixes it needs.

I will get another one, along with CC's correction/upgrade sets for it.  Maybe I'll turn the old Panda one I have into a USMC HH-1N with Fireball's "Abandon Chute" decals too.

Good luck.

Purchased!  Thanks Mr. Q for the links and such.  I think this is going to end up being quite the project considering the amount of corrections offered by Cobra Company.  Now all I need is to find some lo-vis decals.  Honestly, with all the changes that have to be made, this one's probably going to be in a holding pattern on the shelf for a bit whilst I begin work on Academy's 1/48 CH-46E.

You can scrap the P.E. instrument panel as well, since it is leftover from the UH-1D kit and totally incorrect for a -1N. That's another reason to get the Cobra Company interior set, as it includes a beautiful instrument panel and center console.

Currently, there are no 1/35 scale lo-vis Marine decals for the Huey (only the Rescue squadron Gino mentioned above). I have a feeling, though, that some of the Marine decal manufacturers will release some 1/35 scale stuff for the Cobra and Huey sooner rather than later.....
