Will,

Your friend flew with the 68th AHC Mustang Gunships.  Based on a little research, I'd say he flew this bird

http://www.68thahc.com/Ships/66-15069.HTM

This is a Army Gold Book entry from the 68th's main site:

http://www.68thahc.com/

You are very lucky my friend because there are literally thousands of pics on the 68th's web page:

Have fun!

PS: Check Andy's AWESOME Mustang Gunship here:

Now That is a beautiful bird!!!!

PPS: You are one lucky guy cause i found a pic of 069 on the 68th's Page:

Good to go!

There are no decals for that particular bird (unfortunatly...)

In my case I used Fireball decals for generic huey markings... but the rest was made using masks. "Mustangs" was hand painted on the rocket pod using Humbrol enamel paint.

I have a feeling that Grim reaper will have to be painted same way...

Try to draw it first several times with pensil, then switch to paints on pieces of scrap plastic and after 3-4 times you will be able to draw it on the model no problem!

If you are not comfortable trying to either make your own decals or hand paint the markings, check w/Joseph Osborne at Fireball Modelworks.  He will create custom decals at a reasonable price.  He has made a couple sets for me and they look great.  Good luck.

Fireball decals are the way to go for sure!  Joseph did an awesome job on the decals for my dad's bird and at a very reasonable price.  I just supplied a couple of pics that showed the markings and nose art and Joseph did the rest.  Heck, they'd have been worth it at twice the price!  Only problem is once you use Fireball decals, kit decals just don't quite cut it.

here's the nose art from your buddy's ship, 069.  Joseph could use this pic and the other one to get the markings down pretty well I think:

Assuming you get the FROG boxing, you get M3 24 shot rocket pack, M158 7 shot rocket pod, and, I believe the M159/M200 19 shot pods are included as well.  Unfortunately, I'm away from my models at the moment or I'd confirm that.  What else you need?  Definitely do NOT get the UH-1C Hoghead II boxing as it only includes one of the weapons sprues whereas the FROG boxing has all the weapons sprues included.

Yep, That's the one, but you should confirm with somebody that it has the M159/200 19 shotter as I assume that's what you are looking for.  I'm about 75% sure it does, bit I'd hate to lead you astray.  Definitely has everything else though including miniguns.

if nobody else responds by Sunday afternoon, I'll be at home and can tell you for sure if the M159's are in the Frog boxing.  Either way, you'll need the kit as a starting point so go ahead and get one.  Maybe Andy can tell you where he got the 19 shot pods for his bird.

....but you should confirm with somebody that it has the M159/200 19 shotter....

Yes, the Frog kit comes with all 3 types of rocket pods, to include the 19-shot M159/M200.  It has all the weapons previously available in their other UH-1C kits; miniguns, free M60s, 40mm grenade launcher, and all 3 types of rocket pods.

Here is a review of it from Aircraft Resource Center (ARC).  You can see the weapons, ammo box, and rocket pods on the sprues.  It also includes the long troop seat and individual crew chief/gunner seat as well.

Here is the official load-out for UH-1B/C model gunships to help you in your building.

Good luck.

Thanks Gino,

I thought I was correct about the rockets, but I don't trust the old noggin that much these days! I hope you're staying safe in the sandbox.
