Thanks, vector123 for your kind compliments!

Someone said that "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away" or something like that. Good old threads not only never die, they don't fade away either. ;-)

Well, I am 80% done on the same kit, and now I dont feel so bad about mine (my second armour build)  Stuff that Roy Chow put me straight on, like extra work needed around the pistol port... and throw some stowage on the back for pete's sake !

Even the instructions tell you to cut off the incorrect British antenna and make your own whip antenna.......I see AI had as much luck with the seam on the barrel as I did.......Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Its nice to look at....  but this would get caned at a contest.  I see better work posted by you guys all the time....(and you aren't all doing commission work either......

Damn Buddho,

I just noticed you are in Newport News. I just left there in march after a 3 year tour. You spend much time at Denbigh Hobby Center? That place is the best.

Think of what you guys are doing here...then ask yourself why?  Why do you continue to even open, view and comment on this person's post...if you dislike the guy and everything he represents...why do you even open his post, save yourselves the stress, skip over his postings...

I for one enjoy the work he post, by historical accuracy is not that important to me!  The guy like's to show off his collection...so what?

Guys,

Maybe I worded my post the wrong way. I am in no way advocating locking down this thread, or any other on for that matter. It is not my intention to hijack this thread. I am just a little baffled at how some things are handled. Or not handled. Do I think the mods should jump in everytime someone hears something they may not like? Nope.

I have looked through MM's posts and yes, he pretty much posts and then goes away unless it is to respond to compliments. That being said, he seems like a pretty nice guy. You have to get him a little credit for having skin as thick as a Battle Ship. I'm gonna just put this one behind me.

Oh and "Army"...I know exactley what a Report Abuse button is and what it is for but, thank you for patronizing me anyway...

Well, you have to have a modicum of talent, and a whole lotta luck. I had a display at a figure show in Wilmington DE last spring. A couple weeks later, I get a call. Turns out a guy liked my style and asked me to paint some figures for him. When the first set got delivered, he asked me to do several more.

Fortunately, I'm not the indentured servant AI and the others are to MM. I also take pride in what I'm doing. I set the timelines and don't feel rushed. Two of the figures I did for him I thought were better than the ones I did for myself. I'm not going to pay the mortgage with this, let alone get rich, but I'm getting paid to do something I really like doing.

Good points Z. I think what I and several others see here is an obvious personality conflict between the two posters. As long as it does not violate forum guidelines, it will continute for reasons already stated. Like many of the vets here, we are quite familiar with the after action review/critique. They are most helpful when pointing out things done correctly, things done incorrectly, how to improve the gigs. Delivery can be blunt or tactful. I personlly prefer the latter on this type of place due to the very public nature. As the saying goes, "tact is the ability to tell someone to go to he!! and they have a smile on their face as they go on their way there".

And also there also seems to be a more direct approach to that here in the Armor and Figures forums than in say the Aircraft, Helicopter, and Ships forums. Some sort of personality quirk common to those with their feet on their ground I suppose.

But on a side note, I would not mind finding someone to finance this habit like MM does here for AI and Tuk... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] A sort of "patron of the arts" Laugh [(-D]

Sorry man, but I don't see any political ranting in this thread. Those discussions are all too different.

The major bane in these posts, if I gather correctly are as follows:

1) MM does not post his own work, and the original builder never posts a single word.

2) Only replies to "great job, atta boy" comments, and not to criticisms.

3) Never attempts to acknowledge less-than-ideal criticisms, those that are leveled in an effort to make the work grow, and become something better the next time around.

4) Does not promote a sense of community that all others on this site do; particularily in listening, and giving, advice and suggestions.

Political ravings are an entirely different issue. And I am glad that there is a definite variance in severity when dealing with different types of topics. That is how it should be. We are all adults (for the most part Tongue [:P] ) and there is nothing said in this threads that is slanderous, offensive, or otherwise unequitable. So why should it be locked down?

As for n00b posters posting their work once and getting slammed, well you yourself pointed out that for members that do this 'slamming', there are many who jump in to the defense, and even the 'aggressors' (really poor term) usually state that it is nothing personal, and that they are merely pointing out areas of potential improvement.

I have always been curious as to why people are allowed to slam others without remorse and the mods take no action. And yet, whenever even the hint of politics comes up, they come down with an iron fist. Presumabley because it will drive folks away if their favorite political party takes a little flack. Wouldn't having your work degraded drive folks away as well? I am not saying that critisism/critiques should not be allowed. Everyone asks for it myself included.

I fully realize that MM's projects are done by someone else, he doesn't ever present them any other way, however, I have seen other folks come on here with a first post of a model and been run through the wringer. Granted, members will rush to the defense of people but still, the mods never come in?

So it's ok if I post a *WIP* and get my *** handed to me and never post again but, If I get butt-hurt over a political comment and leave, all of a sudden It's a situation that must be dealt with quick, fast, and in a hurry?

I'm not sure exactley where I am going with this. Just something I have noticed more and more.

Regards,

Jeff

...you must really dislike this indivdual...isn't what your doing here "trolling", trying to elicte negative repsonses from other forum members?

I don't see it that way.  I don't dislike him, just his atitude and how he presents himself here.  I'll keep the pressure up too, we are all allowed to have our opinions.

I don't expect a reply, but I'd like to know how Art Instructor

created the water effect.  Looks almost like a crystaline

substance, salt perhaps?  It also reminds me of some gel that my

bamboo plant used sit in in the clear vase.

Either way, it looks quite realistic and coupled with some future

on the Sherman and wet clothes on the figures it would be primo....

Glamdring, what Art Instructor used was not salt but clear resin
and he had revealed the technique to do the water long time ago.
Please take a look at his older work on the same subject, the water
