Japan 75mm SP Dio
Posted by Baronvonboot on Friday, October 17, 2008 4:10 PM

I am doing a small dio for this 1/35 Tamiya model . Just a simple idea of mine so far . Just the tank sort of hidden behind a small hill with some tall grass and jungle plants . The items i am working with is what i have laying around . The base is house foam shaped into a rough circle . I appled an air drying clay over the top . Not sure if its going to stick when its dried . I will try some white glue to attach it , if it does not . The tall grass and jungle plants will be from my local fly shop . They have a treasure chest amount of items that can be used for plants and tall grass . Some items i am using is Deer body hair which is already died in all sorts of colors . Turkey and goose biots . They are the best they look like tall thick blades of grass . Again they come in all sorts of died colors green , natural , dk green , and ect.

Here are a few pics of what i have done so far . I am also working on the model too at the same time . I wanted to get the base down so it could dry to work on it later .

Here is a close view of the turkey biots used as tall grass .

Here is a view of the fly shop items . Deer hair , and biots . I happen to have a shop down the road from me which is all fly shop items . You can get these also at some of the larger camping stores perhaps or on ebay .

Nice start Baron. Your tank camo is excellent.

Here is a few shots of what i have done so far . Added the ground work and some static grass . I plan to highlight the grass with some drybrushing . I also added some tall grass with the deer hair . My camera isn't that good so the shots are a little bright .

The tank still needs some work around the wheels to muddy them up . Just waiting to get the ground work done to see how much it needs to fit into the dio.

A good start on an unusual subject... Don't see many Japanese dio-works... So, gonna let us in on the dio's story or do we wait?

Kinda just throwing this one together . I couldn't find much research on these tanks in action . All i found on the net were some grainy photos . My idea is to have it sort of hidden behind with some tall grass .  Not sure how many actual tank battles were fought on the island battles . Was thinking of doing one with a what if America attaked Japan . Have the tank defend the homeland . Then decided to go with this simple dio for some practice .
