Okay guys maybe he is just doing it as a maketing scheme but so? if he's giving free gift certificates to everyone who enters what's the problem it's not like he's tricking you. into doing anything for him.

Hey Randy, there's no "Ill Will" here, on my part anyway... Maybe "marketing scheme" was too harsh, but I didn't have a better phrase handy... But it was kinda feelin' like a "Buy this thing from me and I'll throw ya a little somethin'-somethin' for doing it" deal... Especially this part: "We  reserve the right to use any photographs entered in the contest in our Dioramas Plus website or advertisements."

But ya gotta see it from my end too, since I really don't want to "donate" my work to someone for their own benefit unless we got a deal that makes it worthwhile for me as well, since I'm likely gonna shell out around 50-70 bucks for the project...

But ill will?  No way man... And my offer still stands... I'd be happy, even proud, to do one for your advertising campaign at no cost to you other than the building kit...  I'm no Francios Verlinden or Shep Paine, but I still do a fair dio here & there...

I'm sorry if I've created any ill will here. Marketing scheme? I'm just a guy who makes model kits trying to make a go of it. I'm giving away a couple hundred dollars worth of kits in exchange for getting a few new customers to give one a try.

Mod please feel free to delete the thread. Again, sorry for bothering you guys.

Sorry Randy... I gotta go with my fellows here and pass... I do understand your motive though...

But I'll make you a counter-offer... Ship me a kit, even sight unseen, and I'll build a dio using it, photograph it, and give you all the photographic rights to it for nothin'...

Thanks guys. I'm just a small manufacturer trying to make a go of it. If you want to buy one of my kits, great. If not, that's OK too. Same with the contest.

Cheers.

In a way i can't blame Randy for trying to promote his product, like he says there has been alot of guys befor him who have gone out of business. Tamiya does the exact same thing as well. Although he should state this is not limted to just this site as he has posted this on every model site on the net.

I wish Randy good luck in his company, and will buy from him as soon as he includes a base in one of his dios.Thumbs Up [tup]

Randy,

No offense meant in my post.

I have been to your site, and am very interested in buying from you in the near future. You have a great looking product.

We aren't trying to throw a wet blanket over anything. And I certainly DO hope that you sell some kits along the way (hopefully a boatload of them), and I am sure that you will.

That being said, though, limiting the contest to builds with your kits alone makes it a sales pitch, which is, in and of itself, against the forum rules. This place is just a home away from home for a lot of people, and being such, we tend to defend it pretty hardcore. As I said before, there was no animosity or offense meant in my post.

I wish you nothing but the best of luck, and the best of prosperity with your endeavor. I envy you for taking that leap, and you will be getting business from me in the future.

Man, talk about throwing a wet blanket over something that is supposed to be a little fun. :  ) You'd think that as bad as the economy is that you guys would welcome a little creative promoting by a new manufacturer. We advertise in FSM. I'm sure they will be interested in seeing and perhaps publishing some of the entries if the quality is high enough. God forbid we might sell a couple of kits along the way as well. You know, there are sure quicker ways of getting rich than starting a 1/35 diorama products company. Look back over all of the companies offering like products that have gone out of business over the years. Now I know why. You guys are a tough crowd. :  )

Mods please feel to pull the thread if it is not welcome here.

Cheers!

I agree with the 'sales' aspect of this. Kinda has a spam feel to me.

Take away the 'buy one of my building kits' aspect of it, and it might be better.

Make it so you can do any dio with any materials from any manufacturer, and keep the prizes the same, and it would feel much more legit to me.

Just my two cents.

I agree.  The intent is to sell products.

Are you using AMPS rules in your judging...??? Grumpy [|(]

Aww! Sad [:(] Manstein just took three of the nicest looking pieces I've seen in a while to AMPS and walked away with nothing so he's rightfully upset.

Again;

The entries will be judged on the following;

Overall impression and presentation. What I mean is that when someone first looks at the diorama they go "Wow! That looks pretty cool!". The diorama should look professional and "finished". You don't need to spend a lot of money on a custom case or anything but whatever shows in the photographs should look good. The structure, figures and or vehicles should be positioned and finished in the most esthetically pleasing way.

Quality of workmanship. A professionally finished diorama is going to place better than one that looks as though it was haphazardly slapped together.

Originality. Depicting the scene or using the models in an especially creative way can only be a positive thing. Don't be afraid to "kitbash" the models, or to combine parts from several Dioramas Plus kits into one larger structure or whatever.

Quality of photography. You could build the best diorama in the world and nobody would know it if the photos you take of it are blurry, out of focus, too dark or too far away from the model. We won't be able to use them on our website or in our advertisements either. Likewise, don't photograph your diorama in front of a stack of dirty dishes in the kitchen or with your neighbors mini van in the background. I suggest taking the pictures outside on a nice day using a digital camera, with as plain of a background as possible.

Announcing new diorama contest.
Posted by downtowndeco on Sunday, February 22, 2009 3:45 PM

Attention mods. Please feel free to place this in the forum you feel is most appropriate;

We'd really like to see what kind of diorama you guys could come up with when using one of our kits as a starting point so we're going to run our first "Dioramas Plus"  contest.

The rules are simple. Use one of our 1/35 kits as a starting point, and build the best looking diorama you can.

The entries will be judged on the following;

The best possible photograph makes the veiwer ask, "Is that real or is it a model?"

How to enter. Send us at least 3 (but no more than 12) photos via email or on a CD along with a brief (one or two paragraphs) description of your model and how you built it. Contest deadline is Oct. 1st 2009. Contest winners will be announced Nov. 1st 2009.

See our complete line of kits at www.dioramasplus.com

Our email address is downtowndeco@montana.com

Our mailing address is Dioramas Plus 5323 Fiddler CT. Florence MT. 59833 USA.

Our phone number is 406-273-0942 9/5/M/F/Mt. Time.

 The Grand Prize is your choice of $100.00 of any current or future Dioramas Plus kits. Second prize is a $50.00 credit towards any of my kits, and Third Prize is a $35.00 credit towards any  of my kits. Everyone that enters will receive at least a $10.00 gift certificate towards Dioramas Plus products. We  reserve the right to use any photographs entered in the contest in our Dioramas Plus website or advertisements.

Thanks much!
