Gundam 1/35th Dio "Run for Cover!"

The mesh chain looks great. I can see a lot of uses for it as a woven hydraulic lines not just in sci-fi models. Thanks for sharing that tip. Keep building.

Once I find batteries for my camera ill post new pics.

For the inside of the wires on the side tubes I used

I took the snake chain, cut it to the size I wanted, like I showed earlier.  At the ends I cut a little bit of the snake chain (the top one in the pic on my table) and put it in the very end, so it sticks out about quater to half an inch and I super glued it in. 

I used the snake chain for two things;

a. it was used as a pin to glue into the socket the hold the chain onto the kit itself

b. it was used as a stopper, to make the snake chain thicker at the end so the pieces wouldnt fall off before they were glued in place.

Once that was finished and the pieces were in place I cut the snake chain where I wanted the split to be.  Then I stuck the copper/brass/whatever metal into the snake  and glued it, so that it would be capable of being bent into a shape and stay there.

(also, I whole heartedly support www.mechaskunk.com they sell some amazing scratch building stuff for gundam and scifi kits, and the owner is awesome.

It's not even so much bad translations.  If you watch some of them with the subs turned on and in English they seem to think it's acceptable to rewrite the dialogue.  Some of the bigger name animes have had a decent job done with the dubs, but a majority of them are just horrible.

Perhaps you're watching engilsh dubs? Sadly anime, especially any anime done before the popularity of DragonballZ is poorly translated, then poorly acted by english voice actors who put in about as much effort as your average burger flipper. Dubs of shows from the 80's and most of the 90's are particularly bad, and are so horrible as to ruin the show you're trying to watch. Thankfully the quality of dubs has gone up in recent years, but it's still usually best to watch the subs with original japanese dialogue.

Anime is usually rated or unrated. Both versions can contain violence, language and adult situations.  It is NOT for the kiddies. Some of the series are good, some are not. It all depends.

I started back in the day watching Dominion Tank Poilce (both series), Bubblegum Crisis, Robotech, and Akira. The "new" Bubblegum Crisis 2040 was OK, but I like the origional series better.

The slightly over-sized heads on some characters is a style.  As far as the faces being slightly larger and the big eyes, it is so the character can better convey emotion as they do not have the detail an actual human face does.  As far as frame rates, any quality anime has minimum 24 frames in as far as I know.  Only crappy American cartoons tend to be cheap and minimize materials and work hours used.  Top that off with fairly unsophisticated drawings and subject matter and you can see why people tend to try and lump all animated media together and call it kiddy.

Frankly, "Japanimation" (the trade term coined by old school animators) has been a pet-peeve of mine for years... I absolutely loath it...  It's not the subject matter either... It's the animation itself...  In the old days, there were 24 frames a second in animation, same as in film... It's been cut to about 13 nowadays...

I blame Hanna-Barberra...

Well a large majority of the fighting with Gundams is done in space, so gaudy or bright color schemes don't really matter at their ideal engagement ranges.  You'd be looking for drive flares at those ranges.  Everything up through Stardust Memory was great, but it starts getting sketchy after that.  08th MS Team was good though. 

Anime has various subject matter and some of it is very appropriate for kids.  I'd just say watch it ahead of time as with anything you're unfamiliar with before letting your kids watch it.

yeah.. I can see where you're coming from. Don't worry, I'm 20, live in my parents basement 5 months out of the year and I still get from my buddies when they find out I don't mind watching anime

Hey- here's a good one, not based off any manga that I know of, course that doesn't mean anything- but Cowboy Bebop is a great serie- way less "disturbing" than Elfin Lied too!

yea, dont watch anime with little kdis  The gundam series contain alot of nudity in one shape or another.

Anyhow, my camera is broken, it seems, ill have to comondeer my parents to get shots, but I took the head appart again, and I am hollowing out parts, and cutting thigns inorder to make the detail stand out.  If you can see in some of the shots in the rear sides of the bottom there is tubing, but the tubes are connected by plastic in the center, I am in the process of cutting that plastic out.  I am TEMPTED to completly cut it out and instead use some metal snake chain I have, but that would take alot of work.

The abse coat is finished on the Zeon MGer, and I have put the primer on the MG.  The head I am holding off uintill I can think of some ideas for how to make the battle damage show more, I believe I am going to add some wires into the gashed spots, having them sticking out and such. 

Re- violence etc - yes I learned my lesson with a Macross Plus DVD. The box said it was a PG (parental Guidance) so I thought it would be ok for the kids - how wrong I was.

 I ended up having to explain what a B"s""rd was to my 3 year-old.

ha yeah I thought about that after. I'm not sure that I'd go as far as to call it disturbing. There's a lot weirder cartoon crap. It's not as bad as a Quentin Tarantino flick. It's so over the top it's almost comical. But I think it's like my personal "Watchmen" of the manga universe.

Be warned though- NOT one for the kids. A little too heavy on the blood and nudity ...and it isn't even necessary to the plot line, it gets a little old. But the over all plot was cool enough to follow. I let one of my friends borrow the box set, they were with some kind of anime club, I think they made some kind of drinking game to it, every time there was a half naked girl or egregious amounts of blood etc.

I feel like the artists tryed to sneek it in every chance they got.
