hedgehog and Tetrahydra
Posted by teejay on Sunday, March 15, 2009 4:35 PM
I'm thinking of building a diorama for my diecast armour and they came with some hedgehogs and tetrahydra as accessories. My question is were these anti-tank obstacles ever used in the city or village of France besides the beaches of Normandy? If yes, can somebody supply some photos that I can use as reference? Thanks.

Yeah! As far as hedgehogs go- they were much better off in urban warfare as opposed to the beachheads. Here's a quote from the wiki page (see "Czech hedgehog")

"Czech hedgehogs were widely used during World War II by the Soviet Union in anti-tank defense. They were produced from any sturdy piece of metal and sometimes even wood, including railroad ties. Czech hedgehogs were especially effective in urban combat, where a single hedgehog could block an entire street."

I've always thought they looked more at home in an urban environment anyway.

Tetrahydras on the other hand? Not so sure... never seen one prior to Huxy's post, they look like they'd be hard to do on the fly in an urban environment (some I-beam rubble and a welding torch vs a concrete mold?- you know what I mean?) but that's just a guess...
