apache down
Posted by camo junkie on Monday, March 16, 2009 1:49 PM

alright everyone, i've had these pictures for years now. my buddy went to afghanistan (many times) back in 'o2 with the 5th special forces group. he took these pics of the e.o.d. guys (which he was a part of not the s.f. group) and this apache that crashed in the valley. they were tasked with the job of blowing up the remains and the unexpl. ordanance. anyway, one, i thought i'd share them and two maybe someone might like to make a dio of this...or might not...but thought i'd share with the class anyway! Propeller [8-]

the crew survived btw, but hard to believe when ya look at what's left!!

enjoy!

It's good to hear that the crew survived... looking at the hulk, one really does have to wonder. With all the damage to everything in sight, I am suprised the wingtip navigation lights look intact...

yeah, he said they survived. although i didnt think to ask him if they'd ever be the same after that. Dunce [D)] oh well. we built it to survive 23mm rounds...just dont let it hit the ground. Whistling [:-^]

As far as "don't let it hit the ground" do you know why they went down? Hard to tell if anything got destroyed before the crash... although most everything looks more bent up and mangled from impact as opposed to ground fire/AA missile...

Equipment? Bingo fuel?

Glad they made it out

Thanks- that makes sense to me- I missed that this was ’02 haha didn't want you going and making up stories it's ok.

I used to have this Team Apache flight simulator video game, joystick and all, I can totally understand if he put it in the ground unintentionally- happened to me on a number of occasions... of course I was doing dives and high speed passes under bridges and the like Whistling [:-^]

But seriously, one of my favorite helo’s- ever since I was a kit. My first military model I made on my own to be honest. Nothing but respect for Helicopter pilots, some of the maneuvers the Little Bird guys made in Somalia trying to defend their buddies on the ground were awe inspiring to read about.

i didnt think u or anyone else wanted me making up stories...LOL. i tend to throw stuff like that in there so people DONT think i am. see my buddy sent me like 10,000 pics and not everyone came with a long drawn out story and those that he did tell me well, like i said its been awhile and i dont remember them all and therefore i dont want to insinuate or make stuff up! i tell ya i've got a few pics model might really like with the special forces that would make some interesting dio's. other stuff like taliban tanks with camo that i've never seen b4 (but those are mine...at least until i model them...lol). stuff with the french foreign legion in afghanistan etc. btw, while i'm on this subject...thank god for people like him. if you only saw (like i did with the pics) all of the left over soviet arms, missles, tanks, planes, helicopters, bullets, bombs, cluster bumbs, rpg's, mines....blah blah blah that they left behind. if they'd have been using the i.e.d. back then...we'd have lost alot more people....

here are just a "few" of the leftovers...trust me these dont in any way give it justice!!!

hahaha thanks, glad you have a pretty good working knowledge of my personality haha- hey! Did I hear you say French Foreign Legion in Afghanistan!? If it’s not too much trouble, shoot me a PM (and check your inbox) if you wouldn’t mind sending me a few of those- I’ll get you my email.

As for all those munitions they took care of... that’s crazy. Glad they took such a good chunk out, IED wise like you said.

CJ, an old buddy of mine was on an ODA from 19th in 2004 going around there doing the same things... locating caches and blowing them up. He sent back several pics that give an idea of the ordinance lying around that country.

just a bit on marines mentioned earlier in San Diego. My bro is there, f-18 jock, anyway a story he told me. There's an F-18 training squadron out there that usually ends up with a flame out about once a month. More often than not they make it in OK. Well a couple months ago, a newbee was comin in single engine, lost control, and ejected. On his way down, he pulls out his cell phone, calls his wife, "Hey honey, I just ejected from my plane, I'm on my way down, I'm OK, I'll be home for diner." My bro was by the duty desk when this clown calls in, "I just ejected from my plane....uh.....could you send somebody out to get me.....uh......you can probably see some smoke from the plane.....I'm not by there......uh.......nevermind, the M.P.s are coming. Don't bother callin my wife, I already did."
