All 3 (including the german) look like they're photoshopped, just an observation.

Do you also colllect other items like accessories and firearms?

Not so much on firearms... I just have what I need for my impessions.. A K-98 and a P-38 for my German impression, and a .45 for my USAAF pilot impression..

The equipment I have is all ordinary field gear for a German Soldier, Gas mask & carrier, suspenders, belt bayonet, e-tool, zeltbahn, mess kit, canteen, helmet, and ammo pouches, along with various medals & badges, some repro, some authentic...

For the USAAF, it's complete right down to the electically-heated underwear...

Model Maniac, as much as I would love to claim credit for myself, that sort of thing is way beyond my computer skills at this time. I found those two pics on a image search while looking for something else. Seeing as how the face and set up was the same I saved them for use here...

Thanks Hans, for the explanation about the source of picture. Just know that you're WWII uniform collector. Do you also colllect other items like accessories and firearms?

Bondoman, thanks for your kind comments on the dio.

Stikpusher, thanks for showing the back side of the Mini Art kit. Your two new pictures are very funny, did you edit them yourself? If so, they're outstanding indeed! Thumbs Up!

Guys, here is a scan of the back of the kit box (from my stash),,you will see in the upper right corner the photo that the set is based on... any posng or molding issues should be taken up with Master Box and not AI/MM...

If I were the dude in the tarp I'd be real worried about where they were taking me- his buddy in the front has a spade stuck in his belt!

I'm no expert, but it does look neat.

Thanks, Hans, for the picture showing Feldgrau color. But is that real picture from WWII or from a movie?

Niether.  It's from an ad for an outfit that makes reproduction WW2 German Uniforms for all branches of the Wehrmacht... The uniforms are as exacting in detail, authenticity, and colors as one can get without a time machine... I've bought uniforms from them for WW2 re-enactments and compared them to museum dispalys and they're dead-on with cut, style, and color..

Thanks, Hans, for the picture showing Feldgrau color. But is that real picture from WWII or from a movie? AI came over yesterday but I forgot to discuss the eye problem with him. In the past some time he didn't paint the eyes at all, may be that's the better way? Stikpusher, a new dio from AI will be available on Monday showing Sd.Kfz.251/3 B Communication Vehicle from Zvezda + BMW w/ sidecar from Tamiya. As for armors there'll be four more and most are new kits namely M1130 Stryker Command Vehicle from AFV Club and Stryker Crew from Hobby Fan, Canadian T17E1 Staghound Mk.1 equipped 60lb Rocket Launch and British Cruiser Tank A34 'Comet' from Bronco, plus the B-4 Soviet 203mm Howitzer newly released by Alan. I don't have to tell that, as usual, they all look great. ;-)

A few comments about this one.

As for the composition- there is a photo on the back of the kit box which this set is based off, so posing is based off a real life incident- it is pretty plain in the photo except for the soldiers...

As for the colors, I have several Master Box sets in my stash, including this one. And at times, I do question some of their colors by brand on the box back- especially Humbrol. If AI followed their call outs to the letter, this is the sort of thing that may result.

Lastly I gotta agree with the eyes critiques- they just dont look quite right- but then again my attempts on eyes have been pretty similar in result... they are just such a difficult task to master. I look forward to seeing more work from AI- always a good learning experience for me.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've shared my technique here many times and shown examples of some of what the current trend in figure painting is. If MM or AI are interested and request it, I'll gladly do so again.

I follow Shep Paine's advice of eye-painting (No surprise, eh?)  He points out that soldiers are out in the sun and have a tendency to squint.  So the eyes needn't be more than narrow black slits in most cases..

Eyes are the reason I haven't done may figures! LOL.

Maybe I should pull a few from the spares box and practice up.

Feldgrau (Field Gray) is a grey-green color, MM... Although I CAN see the gray-green color in the figures, it's very light, kinda like badly faded versions of the original color...

Here's a shot of the Feldgrau uniform..

Many thanks for all kind comments and suggestions.

Hans, I don't know about the correct shade of grey, but this is natural light and this is how my pictures were produced and processed:

all pictures were taken using "time exposure" technique so as to achieve highest depth of field, i.e., using a tripod, setting shutter priority and selecting shutter speed that gives the highest f-stop (f19-f22) and setting self-timer for shutter release. Lighting is natural, pictures were taken outdoor under the shades during daytime. Pictures were scanned directly from film by the photo shop, written on to a CD and resized by me.

Well, I copied that from my page and it comes with diferent size and color. ;-)

I don't know if it's my computer or what, but AI's German unifoms are appearing more and more in a really odd shade of grey...  It's not even close to Feldgrau (Heer) or Mausgrau (SS) but rather light grey/green that's almost the color of RAF aircraft interiors...

It could be because of the flash washing out the colors as well.. Could you try a different lighting set-up perhaps? Maybe a fill-flash or even natural lighting?

It is an interesting concept, I just feel it is missing something.  It would be nice to see some tree/s and/or detritus of war......spent shells, cast away rifle, bloody bandages.  Something, anything!

I like the way the casualty and the left rear guy are looking at each other as if they are talking, but the right rear guy gives me the impression he's walking guard duty.
I like the theme. Thank you for posting it.
