Thanks deafpanzer and camo junkie!!  I appriciate it! Smile [:)]   It's my first all-around-scratchbuilding project aswell..

And deafpanzer...   The very camp I'm replicating, located near Kvalvik Fort, had just 5 huts and two guardtowers. So I have made the walls for all 5, just need all the roofing and such. And then the guardtowers, probably with an MG each... Maybe even a small, nice searchlight?

On the third reference picture, that sketch, it says "Fangetårn" and "fangeleir" followed by yet another "fangetårn"..  "Fangetårn" translates to guardtower, and "Fangeleir" is prisoncamp..!

So all in all, 2x guardstower and 5x POW huts.

Again, thanks for the feedback!

Boy, it is going to be fun for us to watch your process!  How many huts are you planning to build?  Are you going to build just the part of the POW camp or you are feeling ambitious so you are going to build the whole POW camp along with 4 flak or PAK guns?

Good luck!  Will be following your process every minute... maybe not... every day! Wink [;)]

German POW camp for 50 Russians.. WIP

So, here I am.. On my second diorama.  Let's start with why I build this.

I am one of about 10 active members who volunteerly restore the local German coastal fort, named "Kvalvik Fort". We restore alot. We just finished restoring an original Biber midget submarine, and we have several cannons, vehicles, fieldkitchens, bunkers and forestareas to take care off. The fort has about 400 visitors a month, and is a place where many of the population of the area goes on a sunday walk, or walking the dog.

The fort was started in 1943, and was not finished when the peace came in 1945. 100 Germans was stationed here, and it had 4 main cannons and lots of mines and machinegun emplacements. Even remotecontrolled flamethrowers. The purpose for this fort was to control the fire from all the nearby forts here and there in the fjord. All in all about 6 others under Kvalvik Forts command. The fjord has a pretty significant strategic location, when it's the only entrance for bigger ships to get to Sunndalsøra. That is to this date the worlds largest alluminiumfacility, and it was one of the worlds largest when the war waged in Europe.

So, a 50 Russian prisoners was help as labourers here. The camp had two watchtowers and 5 buildings made of plywood. This was located just a few feet outside the fort. The Russians were moved in 1944 (I think it was) to an island just outside the fort, for better protection against escaping Russians.

And if anyone wonders, the Biber submarine comes from a local Biber facility which had 11. This specific biber was found burried at the facility in 2006, and donated to us.

I am also trying out a new style for WIP's, inspired by Chucks awsome WIPs over at the Aircraft section. I am by far as great as him, but I do have something atleast.. So I would also like some feedback on this style!

Sketch specific for this very camp at Kvalvik Fort:

And the build itself...

Thanks in advance for any comments!
