Paint Colours (Diorama related)
Posted by smiddit on Monday, July 20, 2009 12:00 PM

Could someone by any chance post a list of basic colours for painting groundwork, bricks, concrete, plaster etc as I am just getting into building dioramas and have no idea which colours to use for this.

I will probably be using Vallejo Model Air, Model Colour and Tamiya acrylics.

Thanks in advance.

Brian.

Except for maybe plaster (Vallejo off white or ivory would work) all these items come in a wide variety of shades and colors. To be honest, if you're starting out, save yourself he aggrivation and avoid Tamiya. The colors really only match some ideal in Tamiya's collective consciousness, they don't brush well and are touchy about thinners. Vallejo RECOMMENDS distilled water, availble in drug stores and probably grocery stores at a couple dollars a gallon for its model color line.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Unfortunately there is no standard colour for the ground, or for concrete etc (a standard art school joke is: Can you hand me the tube of flesh coloured paint.

Take a look outside and you'll see that one  brick is not the same colour another brick. Its the variety in colour (amongst other things) that gives it the visual interest.

Mix some colours together and play around. Its a lot of fun.
