If you are making a poster for a wall then you should use a very thin paper.

If you are making an ad for boards you can use sticker paper and you can just stick your ad on a piece of cardboard or styrene depending on the required thickness of the board.

if u scan them into ur computer and print them, what should i print them on, just normal paper or card or somthing else???

Search ebay or do a Google image search for the signs you're looking for, copy & paste the photo into MS Word, Wordperfect or whatever you use.
Re-scale to proper size and print. Use the largest photo available for the best resolution. Make sure your printer is set for best qauality printing also.

Image quality is reduced if you reduce the file size (by lowering the resolution) while maintaining the physical size (dimensions) of the pictures. However, when the physical size (dimensions) are reduced but maintaining the resolution, the quality will be as good as the original.

My practice is I scan the pics at 600dpi giving me a large file size and high resolutions picture file. Technically the file will have many pixels giving it more detail. When reducing the image size (not the file size) I then select the option to save the resized image in the same resolution as the original as much as possible.

Another option I can recommend.

Scan at a low res and print at a high res, instant and perfect reduction.

Ie.: Scan at 100% 100DPI print at 300DPI .

Most images when reduced/enlarged by software will suffer in quality and clarity.

Scan them and reduce the size using any photo editing program. You will have endless possibilities.
