There are several options here.
You could use twigs and branches from actual trees. The fine roots from trees are excellent for smaller branches. Also, stretched sprue can be bent and formed into branches.

You could also build the trunks using a wire as center and glue layers of newspaper strips around it.

I like to use a type of moss (donĀ“t remember the exact name of it) which is white or very light green. I spray on glue and sprinkle coloured saw dust on. Looks great.

okay, started back up, after 10 yrs..my 3 brothers and i.
we made a little diorama back in the day of a couple german soldiers, on a path, talking to other soldiers on a german motorcycle. there was a street lamp, that one of my brothers actually lit up with a tiny bulb, our pops loved it. well, for the first time in about that long we will all be in the same house (we all live in different cities/states) for more than a week, we decided that we want to 'beat out old diorama, and give pops a lil suprise for christmas....actually it will be a little late, but....anywyas..we have a whole ww2 scene planed out, watchtower etc.. i want big big trees.. i think im going to have to make them, and i have no clue how to..im going to need at least 4 or 5 trees between 10 and 12 inches tall... the trunks on h.o. scale stuff are too small...im lost..even if i figure out the trunks..what about branches..?? p.s. this is 1/35 scale.
any help would be apreciated! thx!
