Hetzer dio... WIP
Posted by stick man on Saturday, October 24, 2009 6:27 PM

Hi guys!

I havent bean doing very much building lately because school started last month and getting ready and doing homework have taken up most of my time and ive also bean sick reacently and am just getting better so i think that makeing a dio for my Heter would be a great way to get back in to the swing of things.

For the dio i am thinking of makeing it of my Hetzer stoped on a road with some other Germans in a feild looking at an American 57mm recoiless rifle thay have just chased the crew away from. I'd like to hear any sugestions you guys might have.

With the help of my dad i cut a pice of wood to use as a shape for the road witch will be higher than the rest of the dio. The Hetzer will be parked with a crewman standing on top looking over at what the other Germans are doing.

so far ive decided to use figures 1 and 2 from this set as well as the 57mm gun from the Infantry weapons set. the fiure i have started work on is on top of the box.

Thanks for looking! and any imput you might have would be apprecitated.

looks good, i built up that figure set last year, came out very nicely. I'm not sure but i dont think that that 57mm was used until korea ot 'nam. You could do dragons new 105mm howitzer that just came out.

Thanks for looking Jadgpanther302

I just quickly did a search and it looks like the 57mm was used near the end of WW2 by the US so i think im going to stick with it for the dio.

I would profer to use an actual artillery pice like the 105mm but my parents dont think i need any more kits hahahaha

Thanks for looking!

Great idea, and superb work on the hetzer! The camo is very nice. Yeah, a 105 would be nice, but it's more of the idea what counts. I would think that there would be at least 1 American that didn't make it away from the gun, perhaps you could have a casualty leaning up aginst the gun? Just thinking up some ideas, but again, it looks like a god start. BTW: What kit is that Hetzer from? Tamiya?

Ok guys heres my first update. I've finished the first figure and have started on 2 others and I think I might add one more German and mabye and American casualty if i can find one or convert another figure.

This is the first figure.

And this is where he will be placed in the dio.

This is the parcaly started figure 2

and figure 3

For figure 3 the picture on the box art showed his shovle stuck in his belt but the instructions didnt show how to do this so I used one of my new mini drill bits to drill out wher ther was a bulge in the belt and wher the shovle was suposed to go and than glued it in place.

Thanks for looking! I'd like to hear any coments or ideas you have.

Looking good, I like how its going to look.

And I love the unique camo scheme, its even better than mine.

Thous you may have added too much mud

Here's one I know from Verlinden... they sell few kits.  Of course I'd rather to see a dead German!  Hope this helps... http://www.verlindenonline.com/store/1-35-gi-39-s-down-wwii-2174.html

Very nice. The flesch is good, but maybe take a TINY brush and go around the eyes a little. He's got that "bug-eyes" look. otherwise, nice painting! I also like his place on the tank. Gonna add a tanker or something in the hatch?

You could just suggest one. Maybe some spatter, a banged up helmet, or maybe one of the Germans (or a dog) following a blood trail. You could also have the wrapping from a compression bandage or something, but I don't  know whether they would have had time to put one on or how you would model it.

True, but I think that if you just get a cheap Tamiya fig, cut the limbs and reposition them with epoxy putty. Make him face-down so it's not apparent the eyes are open. That thcheap way, but Verlinden is good too...

Thanks for looking and comenting guys!

I might rethink the casualty because of the size of the base it might take up a lot of room and make the sene apear to cramped? And i dont know of anywher that sells Verlinden stuff in my area so i might go with some bandeges or the helmet.

Thanks for looking! and for giveing me some ideas!

But at this stage it could have been a thick of the action thing where they had to leave the dead behind
