Mother, No!
Posted by Bexley on Thursday, November 12, 2009 7:34 PM

This is a diorama I did a while back. 28mm figures (~1/48-1/56 scale). Painted using exactly two colors of paint: P3 Thamar Black and P3 Morrow White.

Norman was a conversion using parts from Tamiya 1/48 US and German soldiers, a little bit of Kneaditite putty, and the head from a Wyrd Miniatures "Papa Loco" figure. Mother was a Games Workshop skellie with a Kneadatite dress and wig. Mother's knife was made from Milliput. The furniture is quarterscale dollhouse furniture. I made the bed covers, indented mattress, and pillows out of Milliput. The room is all scratchbuilt from styene sheet and strip, with individually laid floorboards. The birds are from Reaper miniatures.

Whoops! Blush [:I] That's odd. It must load from my cache instead of the server when I'm at home, as it looked fine when I posted it. Here at work, I'm seein' the Dude. I'll fix it when I get home tonight.

What site did you host the pic on? You run your own server or  you are using another hosting site? Looks like just a standard warning against hot-linking.

K.I.S.S. Just upload to photobucket.

I'm paying for my own server space, and one of the primary reasons is to host photos for a site (as well as the site itself, of course) that's in the works. Photobucket might be easier, but it defeats the purpose.

At any rate- I only recently made hotlinking refer to The Dude, and I haven't yet added all the sites to my .htaccess file in which I want hotlinking allowed.

The image should be working now. Though, I can't really tell myself, as I'm now at home, where the image appears out of my cache. (I could clear the cache, but since in theory nothing would change on my end, it wouldn't really tell me anything for certain.)

did you paint it black and white, or is the photo BnW?  painting it BnW would be amazing, not that it already isn't

It is painted in black and white. (Specifically, P3 Thamar Black and P3 Morrow White.)

And for those who miss The Dude, here he is, in all his Dude Glory.

Okay, i'm just going to ask, but, why is the mother dead, i mean, yes she did comit suicide (obvious by the knife) but what the backstory.

However, overall, the dio is perfect, context is excellent. and the scene is well detailo, especially the black and white color.

Once in a while you come across a diorama that is so far off the usual beaten path of the typical war dios we see here, that it just amazes me.  Not to take away from those typical war dios, but it's really refreshing to see one that breaks from the norm.  This is one of those.  It's fantastic.  I love to see ideas taken from classic film, as in this one, or displays inspired by true events, like one guy I've seen who bases his on true UFO encounters.  So original and inspiring.  Great job!

You gonna do "Gaslight", or "The Rear Window" next?

Marvelous and inspiring!  To essentially scratch build that scene and then to paint it as portrayed is  astonishing and yet I am disturbed that I may show my age by recognizing the movie?  Hey wait a sec... the wife is in the shower! Shock [:O] I got an idea! Evil [}:)]

...seriously?

Actually, the painting of this vignette in grey-scale is pretty impressive...I bet I know the exact figure used for the Norman conversion...

Wow, Bexley, excellent job!  And knowing how much you scratched makes it even better.  Well done!
