This is a project I have been working on for some time. It is still a work in progress. It depicts a Marine squad burning out a cave on Iwo. This is my second diorama and i welcome all comments and suggestions

Thanks

Very nice work especially the smoke! Thumbs Up [tup]  How did you make it if you don't mind telling us.  I would remove the one toned paint orange or yellow on the right and left sides of the cave... I am not sure if it looks right but that's my thought.  Everything looked GREAT!

Looking forward to see more of this...

Andy

This is a work in progress ,You're right, I had planned to make the smoke billow out of the sides of the cave. I would be more than happy to show you how I made the smoke Thank you for your comments

Wow, that's pretty cool. Wouldn't the smoke be more grey and black though?

WOW!  Thanks for the toot.  I had the feeling that you used the same stuff I applied around the airduct outside my house.  How creative... I'd rather to use this than real cotton because it is difficult to make it look right.

Gentlemen

since this is still a work in progress. I have made some changes to it. I got rid of the flame and extended the smoke plume into and out the sides of the cave. You can still see a hint of the flame in the smoke plume.

Let me know what you think of the changes

Thanks

Of all the smoke & flame effects I've tried and seen others try, this's certainly one of the better ones... The only thing I'd add would  be a camera trick rather than a modeling tip...  I'm gonna try your technique and add a bit UV red, yellow & orange paint into strategic places (especially the flame-thrower stream) and give it some black light...

In the past, I've succesful with muzzle flashes using grain-of-rice/grain-of-wheat bulbs wrapped in spun glass thread (more commonly known as "Angel Hair") but the stuff ain't easy to find... My last batch was a small ball of the stuff that I pulled out of a broken "Angel", a Christmas tree-topper about 20 years ago...

Dunno why I saved it (I didn't think about muzzle flashes at the time), but as you know, a scratchbuilder never throws ANYTHING away until after it's been thoughly examined and salvaged, lol...
