painting rubble: i could use some help

The most important thing is the location.  Where is the building located and what is the timeframe?  Different cities have different types of architecture and construction techniques. 

I've never really thought painting rubble...  I just use street gravel and kitty litter..  Dabbing some brick color here & there with the piles to show some broken bricks.. The gravel & litter are already what I think is the right color..

well, it's in the balkans and it's during the 90's.

colonel, i appreciate that idea alot but unfortunately the rubble is already in place and glued to it's position. so, kitty litter is out of the ?. wish i had put more thought into this...lol.

Once you get your base colors down, don't forget to give a light dusting to everything in the stucco color. Stucco will tend to crumble to dust when it collapses (especially when pummeled by bricks on the way down). Just think about the amount of dust you see in building implosions. Part, or all,  of a building coming down is a very violent thing.

Maybe some pastels or tempera powders would work..

i have some pastels as well as mig powders. so, i should paint some of the mat'l red/brown and some grey for stucco. yes? what about washes?

Ok, well your bricks are red in colour correct? Thus it follows logic that most of your debris would also be red in colour. I spray it down with various dark reds and browns, then paint like your models, ie, washing, drybrushing, dusting, pastels, etc...

Even if all the debris is added, you can still go and get some gutter dust/debris, and add it in, the colours will be just right.

Hey CJ, i just attach my rubble to my base, and then airbrush it black, then i airbrush very light coats of greys, browns, and whatever else, then go through and selectively paint the bricks the redish brown you want then add a wash and drybrush it all
