Ain't Miss Behavin' Diorama B-17 G (Mono)

I was asked to show this in this forum by Hans von Hammer so Here I Am. I have also been asked to show how I made the base of this build, and where the figures came from. I'll do my best to explain. First the figures they are from Verlinden, CMK and the kit itself. As for bashing any of them I left them as Is on this build, on my Ain't Miss Behavin' 3 Build I bashed a few of them to make them fit in the Ball Turret, Tail Gunner and Top Turret. I added those photos too. Now for the base!

Cut board to size and add Frame leaving about an 1/8 inch above board.(Fig 1) this is to hold in plaster. Mask off frame and add 1/8x1/8 piece of wood to form "Pavement" area (Fig 2). After putting plaster in the Formed area screet it with a piece of wood, while wet to get it level, moving it back and forth while moving top to bottom (Fig 3). If you don't get it perfect, remember they didn't either, they did have low spots and chips as well. Let dry. Then I sand it with 80 grit paper and block to get the texture and using a nail etch the surface into your grid pattern(Fig 4 and Photo). Then I take a Brown mix of acrylic paint and paint the lines and some of the low area sand cracks. Then holding an airbrush at  almost level and spray on your color, I use a gray mix and a brown mix, (Fig 5) in opposite directions to give it that weathered and used look. I then using a toothbrush splatter on both Gray and Brown dots for gravel (Photo). Then I place the plane or whatever on the base to locate the areas where you get DRIP and oil,and grunge(Photo). then I put on a HEAVY coat of  urethane and then another just to SEAL the surface. I then Mask off that area (Fig. 6) blue is tape and White area is, paper, the black area is where you put in the "Earth" plaster part of the base, I rub it as it dries to give it the texture of rolling earth. Then it gets the airbrush treatment in Green and brown, when it has dried I cover it with Elmers glue and apply Static grass. This stuff is the S^%@ if you have not used it. I just punched it in and found a lot of info on how to use it and a cool and cheap way to apply it. (Photo). I hold plane down with screws from below and glue down the Tail Wheel. Mount the guys and you're done. I hope this is of help to Ya'll and if you have any questions just ask!!!

Oh poop I forgot to put in the bashing of the men on AMB 3 so here you go. The guy on the left is for the tail and the on on the right is for the ball turret. The one for the top turret has no arms and I had to cut into his back to get him to fit but you can't see any that was left out. Again a big oooooppppps on that one!!!!

Did you have to modify any of them to fit into position, other than the top turret?  I.E. Did the figure for the ball turret come that way or did you have to cut and reglue the legs into postion?

Yes he was cut and reglued, then cut and reglued, then his feet were shaved, His head was cut then curled more, then his back was shaved and filled ( The Kit left his back hollowed out? ). He was quite a bit of work but it all came together. The tail gunner too was modified by cutting out part of the back of his legs so he would kneel. I hope this helps!
