Snow Tiger Fire Support!

This is my current build, and my first attempt at that hairspray method.

Note: I wasn't sure about the hairspray, so i did a light coat of panzer grey first.

Then Tamiya acrylics for the camo

Then the white wash

At this point i read your suppose to use water to scrape off some of the white.
However this didn't work for me at all, and was forced to use rubbing alcohal.

It looks ok, i think it will look better with some weathering next, we'll see i guess.

~Looking good so far Buddy--- though it's tuf to tell by those shots---need a zoom to see how the chipping went. What do mean "resort' to alcohol? IMO it's a far more effective choice--the right one---even if people seem to believe water and scubbing is the way to do it I pose that it is not, A damp brushing wish 70% alcohol, wait 30-40 seconds and cip away, working on small areas at a time. If your still not happy with it, you can likely go back in and do more, again and again---before you seal!

Dude with the binoculars in the last pic, absolutely awesome.  That figure made me laugh so hard!  Hes looking away with a big grin on his face when the officer is practically yelling in his ear.  I bet you hes listening to music on those big earphones.

The build itself is VERY good.

Awesome work as usual my friend, that crew really works well with the tank.  I particularly like the view of the crewman through the rear hatch.

Great work Lt,

Update on this dio, the base was completed, just like Indy does his.  I have added a swimmwagen
which will be up on the rise. Withthe mudd on it now, i need to figure out the color to paint it.

Hey Man~~ That white wash looks terrific in the zoom shots--great job with that--it's amazing the kind of control you can get after you poke around a little bit with, huh? The first builds I read using hairspray (even from some great modelers) had you taking the model to the sink and scrubbing away!  A patient hand, a number of hours, and wetting a small area at a time seems to be a much better aproach .

NOW I see what you meant by MUD ! ~LOL~ I couldn't tell from what you left on my thread but my guess was you we're modeling mud from some substanceSmile I guess you can just as easily turn that mortar into scale mud as you can snow, or likely a a mix or on & on--very good--there's a few guys on this forum that like to build with that stuff---really a variation on using plaster (Rick Lawlers usual method BTW) Stay tuned on "Clash" to see how I'm going to go about it...

AND----keep posting frequent update pretty pleaseYesCool

P.S. I love the map---very effective---what's the source of that?

Looks great to me! Great looking tiger and great looking figures!

I'm going to have to try the hairspray thing one of these days.

Thanks Indy & Gamera, the maps are from Verlinden, they give you alot so it should last ya
a long time. I know Rick well, he lives an hour away, i bought a bunch of Mig pigments from
him last year at the show.

I used to use Celluclay all the time, but it tuff to work with, shrinkage & drying time.
But with mortar, it dries in 40 min, with very little shrink, its my new fav for ground work.

Now im ready to paint it, thats the hardest part for me.

Indy does, only he's a bit more skillful at it then me.

Hey BuddY~!  The completed scene looks great Man!

[Thanks for expressing the high regard you have for my work! Very kind.]

I dig it---the snowy mud is really convincing--the Tiger is superb and the figures are above average and have good interaction. The shots on the white background work for me too. If your waiting for a (but)..I'd rather not include one, though I'll say Im not thrilled with the solution of the small frame corner around the hillock--I think a better idea for that would be cut-away soil--or cover the wood with the earth mixture and just go vertical there--but hey, at least it's original--and really the Dio rocks! (send in  a picture to FSM!)

Hi Indy & RB, much thanks guys for your support,  glad you liked it.
Funny i hadn't thought about the base being flushed with that mound til you
mentioned it. Now that i see that, it makes sense to do it that way. oh well, next time.
Til then here is some more shots for fun!

Naw its true, i didn't spend much time on that Tamiya schwimmwagon, its such
an ugly kit, i picked it up for $3, and thought it would add a little something to my dio.
Thus i could have put more into it but was more interested in the Tiger, and base.

I wish Dragon would make a new one.

Nah-- schwimwagon looks great---really great, especially considering it's a $3 afterthought.
