What I do is take a small clump of strands from this stuff. Fold it over and tie the base. I drill corresponding hokes in the base. I try the clump in a three dimemnsional bell curve and glue (Elmers or CA) the clump into the hole and double check if there are stray strands that don'e look right. These get trimmed back.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

If you want field grass that's cheaper than Woodland Scenics and is a lot more "wild"-looking, try unraveled hemp rope... I use it all the time and a few feet of it will last for a lifetime...

You seem to have found the right product without trouble.Should only be $3-$4 for that pack. You didn't say if you we're adding in some clumps of grass or trying to cover a whole field though-there are other way to go about that. You might try the method Al suggests above--that is how I usually read of it being put to use. The 1st time I used it I found it easiest to put a small puddle of thin C/A on a small piece of glass, I would take a small pile of the 'grass' and cut it with scissors to about the length I wanted, holding the part to use clamped in some tweezers, I'd dishevel it a bit for a more ramdom appearance, quickly dip the bottom of the strands in the shallow thin C/A, touch it down right in place on my groundwork, and release the tweezers---and it stuck straight up right in place! It worked for me:

Later I went back and bent some pieces and tweaked some a little--but notice how the little clumps set off the  'stump' and other items.

I second Hans's comments. Hemp rope or jute rope is better because it's almost free, no need to pay $3-4. Just cut hemp rope into desired length, put it in food-spinning machine to disintegrate it from group, then place it on your diorama base as you like. Here's a sample using such material:

Model Maniac.....  i haven't heard of or seen that one before. That's a brilliant idea. I am not sure my partner would entirely agree with the method though...........

   But i like it......Bounce
