Approach to bastogne
Posted by 101stAirborne on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 8:28 PM

December 24th, 1944. 2 American  soldiers  in the 101st airborne are about to destroy an unsuspecting Marder  III. Meanwhile the German infantry advances on the American line of defense at Bastogne.

The Marder is also from Dragon. The building was scratch-built from sheet rock drywall. The snow is baking soda. I made this diorama for my grandpa last Christmas. Dioramas make great presents.

Please tell me what I can improve on. One of the best dios I have made. What do you think? I put new photos on at the highest resolution I could get and they still seem the same size but I don't think that they are too small.

Video of the diorama at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl53BxYPR7k

Manstein's revenge

I think we need to see an overall pic of the dio and your pics are too small...

That's pretty much it-----But I would have said  "Looks pretty impressive in the itty bitty preview shots

That's a clever trick....I bet that kinda of photo work would take the wrinkles out of anything."

~~101st~  If your photos get blurry in a zoom it's because you used way to low resolution when shooting them. Reshoot at full-res and uplaod pics in te size range of 600-1240 KB's each<---works everytime

My Cannon sure shot SD 1200 IS  works best without using the zoom feature, I just position the camera close and it seems to take great pictures then, possibly allowing for more auto adjustment?

The diorama looks great!

I have seen lots of snow and like to model winter scenes, remember shadows in snow is a reflection of the sky. Grey sky = grey shadows. Blue sky = blue shadows. The key is to be easy on this effect. Only dirt and dust blown on snow will look brownish.

Simple snow mix:

Acrylic flat white, a bit of Tamiya acrylic clear blue or 'smoke' for color. A few drops of future for shine. Use as wash for foot prints ect. Dry brush flat white over high spots. Thicken mix with Talic powder (baby) for deeper snow IE snow accumulation.

Gotta agree with Manny, but what I see looks great!
