Hey fellas, been a little busy for a few months with the new addition to my family..things are leveling out and I have found some time to return to the bench.....Started this dio a few weeks ago, construction is foam board and sheetrock mud, split matchsticks for the floorboards, scrap wood for the windows and beams, and masking tape wallpaper ...all comments and critiques welcome!

That's one great scene of destruction. I like it when main structures are scratch built. Will be observing this post indefinitely.

Cheers,

Richard

LT. Thanks for checking it out and kind words...I think wall papper in general is ugly, but mine is the ugliestBig Smile...Keep in mind 90% of the second floor will be covered in soot, dust and debris...the uglyness will hardly been seen...thanks for your honest opinion!

Hey Stern0, that's a really great piece of work your doing there. Any chance of elaborating on your technique. Especially the facade you have added. It's got a great appearance.

I really like what you have done with the place....Stick out tongue

Justin, thanks for looking and your favorable comments...The process for the rock is pretty simple. I put a thin layer of sheetrock mud on whatever the structure is made of, in this case foam board. I then scribe the rock into the wet mud with a sharpened matchstick..then with a wet paint brush I texture the "rock" to give it a little depth. the sheetrock mud is easy to use and can be added or sanded away as necessary....then a little paint and weathering to taste...here is a pic of the freshly scribed rock that will be another part of the dio and a older peice to show a finished product...hope this helps and thanks againBig Smile

Another mini update! This was supposed to be a burnt out shell, but the interior has gotten the best of me...this is the first floor that has evolved from a cafe to bakery to pub...enjoy the pics...all this will be covered in tons of debris and rubble very soon! Thanks for looking!

Here is my freshly cut bricks for the street..

Really impressively modeled devestation Sterno!

This is gunna be too cool. Only, I wonder what dumbas* lowered your 5star rating? Probably same one that lowered mine.

Keep at this--I look forward to more~

Hey Stern0, your build is really looking good. Can't help to think the bar has an uncanny resemblance to the tavern scene in "Inglorious Basterds"Smile Good brick work too.

What's all this 5 star rating and how is it manipulated?

Cheers,

Richard

Why would anyone do that?

Stern0...  coming along nicely. You make it look so easy. I'll have to have a go at making my own buildings. It would be much cheaper and definitely more rewarding..

I tried to give you a star so you could have five again but i can't seem to get it to work. You deserve five stars.....Big Smile

101st, Thanks for looking and your kind words...hopefully the finished product will be sooner than later!Wink

INDY, Many thanks! This is my first attempt at urbanish destruction...kinda  just winging it...we will see where she goes...Those stars...hmmmm...I didn't even know we could fool around with them ...yours are always full!Big Smile...but how crappy is it to lower someones rating...give em an inch.......

Richard, Thanks for the +feedback..I'm sure that I.B had a little influence on the way the pub looks..although it was my forth choice after cafe, butcher shop and bakery...I am just glad you can tell its a tavern!!!Big Smile I have no idea about the stars...I don't think I had any until a few days ago...I thought ADMIN had something to do with it...sorry I am no help....Maybe INDY will shed some light on it!

Justin, Thanks for the vote of confidence...not sure if anything I do is 5 star worthy! I will say that scratchbuilding is the most rewarding thing I do in modeling....I work with a tiny budget (just had a child and can't justify spending money on anything else) so I try to use things I have around..Sometimes it works sometimes it dos'nt....but you can make whatever you want and are not pigeonholed by whats on the hobby store shelf and yes...WAY CHEAPER!Stick out tongue...Ill have another update soon!!!! Thanks again!Big Smile

Guys to "VOTE" on the star rating of a thread--

All there is to it is clicking on the star---Starat the top of the page of the open thread

-far right for excellent(like this thread) or far left for poor.

The more votes, they less they move the meter---so one vote can set the whole thing!

I'ts not even like most of the members know how it works, but the few ****'s that lower ratings out of jealousy or personal problems seem to know how---when I posted that the other day this post had 2 stars! I bumped it up Obviously someone is a **** because this is the best kind of thread, no doubt about it.

I have been following your process since the day you first posted.  I won't be surprised if this diomara comes out as great as your last few diomara sets.  I never forget the days when my boys were so young... diapers, baby formulas, new clothes every 3-6 months and many more... money was very tight!  But you will manage to build at least twelve diomara sets a year, right? Stick out tongue  Good luck!
