Using Modelling wax...
Posted by Dalixam on Thursday, July 29, 2010 3:43 PM

Hi all! I'm new to the community, but it seams like the place to be when starting at modelling, so here I am :)

I have just begun my first diorama. Obviously I'm rather clueless, but spending hours reading topics online, I'm getting the general idea of how to proceed.

I am building the dukw and the machine gun emplacement at the moment, but I need a way to create a line of ocean, a line of beach and some steep rocky grond.

A friend of mine suggested modelling wax. Would it be possible to shape and paint that? :)

I'll upload some images once I'm a bit further in the process.

Regards!

Lasse

It may be a little difficult getting water based paints to stick to wax. Also wax has a way of imbibing dirt over a long period of time. What I would suggest is that you use modelling wax to make objects and then make a mould in silicone and then you can cast away in whatever medium you choose.
