first diorama...
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 12, 2004 8:58 PM
I have come up with a list of ideas for my first diorama, and I would like to know which one you pros think is best. Here they are:

A Huey in Vietnam, unloading troops while hovering

a WWII American jeep, with driver and passenger (maybe I could show them looking over a map, which is on the hood of the jeep)

mechanics servicing an F-15 which will have it's access panels open, and I know I"d have to scratchbuild the stuff beneath the panels (either on a runway or in a hangar) (and maybe I could exclude the mechanics if they were too hard, and just show the F-15 with it's panels open

My experiences include many aircraft, 2 helicopters, some cars, and 1 figure (although it was a cheap little plastic soldier I picked up from Dollar Tree, I did the best I could with the paint job). Thanks in advance!

Only because it's your first dio .... I'd suggest going with the Jeep and a couple of figures. Hone some of your skills while doing a small one then carry on to something larger.

I agree with Sherm. It might be helpful to start small. It will enable you to have more focus as you will be dealing with a fewer number of subjects. Also, even small dios can sometimes (when properly done) be as expressive (and impressive) as big ones.

Good luck.

P.S.

I did a small dio some months back involving a jeep. You might want to check it for reference. Here's the link to my site.

I am not an expert yet but if you need any help I would be happy to try to help you with your dio.

Go with the jeep. you'd have to find a way to make the huey look suspended and the Tomcat is a big start. Good luck in any case.
I like your huey idea. I have a similar idea, I want to build this:

I'd make the ladder from rod and use it to support the copter's weight.

DDRmaniac122002, a WWII American jeep, with driver and passenger (maybe I could show them looking over a map, which is on the hood of the jeep). This would be my choice. Good luck.

Thanks to all. I will go with the jeep as everyone suggested. It will be months till I get it started, then who knows how long to finish, but I'll probably have some questions along the way. I'll post some pics of it when I'm finished. Thanks again!

It was originaly posted to National Geographic. They received tousands of hits on their site regarding it. Their photo editors did a little reseach, found all of the original photos and applauded the effort. Its actualy two photos, the seahawk and the bridge are one, the shark is a shot from South Africa. The two were composted together using photoshop in about 4 hours. NG ran a small article about it in a previous issue.

Still very cool. I think you should do it Cassi.
