Telephone poles on a road?

I don't know for certain, depends how far apart the real things are, but i would guess no more than 2 over that distance, assuming you put one at each end. As for a rule about things being uneven, thats not one i have heard or ever apply.

The poles can become overpowering & draw too much attention due to their size. Two, one at each end and not parallel with the diorama base will work. I also suggest just a simple one or tow wire type.

Design your diorama to draw the viewers eye to the story, the rest is just visual interest. A good rule is no more than 2" square without something to view. People naturally view the same way we read, left to right.  

Trouble with telephone poles is the poles and "wires" present a strong vertical and horizontal elements, both drawing the eye along them and framing the scene.

  I have to agree with the guys... it would look odd if you do this.  Just an idea... if I was in your shoes, I would do the telephone poles but the lines have been cut and laying down on the ground.  I see that all the times in WW2 pictures... it will make the diomara look more interesting and realistic. 

Here is a model by Ken Hamilton with three poles, and everything is parallel and square,... and it works beautifully as a composition. Ken is a master and knows what he is doing.

Experiment and try out lots of different options until you get the one that is right for your dio. Also go and check out the telepgraph poles near your house to see how far apart they are and study the wire etc and see how you can use them as part of your dio...they must be there for a reason. If, you don't know why they are there, then you may want to ask yourself why you want to include them in the first place.

 Interesting thought!  Would you do this if the road in question had not been in a battle but behind the front as civilians evacuated?

Personally, i am not one for looking at lines and having the dio in perspective and all that stuff. I look at my Dio's as 3D photos, i am trying to re-create a scene that may or could possably have happened. Phone poles are part of the real world, so i would add them, with or without the wires in place.

When I buy a bunch of flowers for my wife, the florist ALWAYS selects uneven numbers for each variety of flower she includes, and it works every time, So there is something to this idea of odds helping a composition. I think it's one of many compositional "rules".

Yup, I use that rule too in my compositions. It even applies to placing an object slightly of center which creates visual interest.

I have a road that is 19" long in 1/35 scale and I want to put telephone poles beside it. .   How many telephone poles should be put on that distance?   Is there a "rule" that you should display uneven numbers of objects to keep the diorama out of balance?

I'm a tad confused--is the base 19 inches long with a 1/35-scale diorama on it, or is the road 19 scale feet  long, rather than inches? Either way, I think you would need only one telephone pole, especially if you're modeling a section of road only 19 scale feet long;  real telephone poles are placed much farther apart.

If it's a battle damage scene, perhaps the pole could lean a bit.
