Concrete bunkers on the eastern front
Posted by Tankluver on Friday, August 26, 2011 2:48 PM

If you noticed my two earlier posts there about verlinden's bunkers. My next question is would any of the bunkers verlinden made been used by the Germans when the Russians pushed back against them? Like would the 5cm concrete gun emplacement have been seen in the east? Did the Germans have alot of fixed fortifications like they did at normandy and the siegfried line but in the east, or were they more or so like dugout bunkers ? Are these bunkers that verlinden make better off being used for D-day and italy type dioramas?  Thanks guys!!

They're definately better for the Atlantic Wall stuff, but Italy could be a viable location as well... On the Eastern Front, the Germans didn't have time to build concrete fortifications while they were retreating...  Most were dug out and covered with logs, or dug-in, disabled tanks.  They also used many knocked-out Soviet tanks and SP guns as overhead cover...
