Album Cover Group Build?
Posted by smeagol the vile on Monday, September 19, 2011 9:34 PM

Hey Guys, I had an idea the other day and am going to do it myself so I thought i'd toss it out there to see if anyone else was up for it.

I am proposing a group build that is simply to build a dio that is either a direct copy of, or based off of an album cover.

FOR EXAMPLE.

I am going to do the Cover to the Rush album 'Roll the Bones' sans the Kid kicking the skull

I would be interested in this for the past few years I've been kicking around doing the tank off Iron Maiden's A Matter of Life and Death album.

I will definitely lurk here as well to see what transpires. I have signed up for the Dio group build, and right now that is more than enough to keep my self occupied. But i do look forward to seeing what happens already a couple of great ideas. Love the White Album concept lol!

Funny, cause this thread made me think of the possibilities of doing Sgt. Pepper. Then I thought of the impossibilities.

Would be cool, tho.

So I'm honestly not sure.  Are you just joking and have no intent of joining what so ever and just want to derail the thread with this or what...  I mean it stopped being funny after the first time it was done

My proposal wasn't "minus" anything...

Not everyone's a Spinal Tap fan, I guess...

Thought you were a music major...

Here's the link..

http://images2.makefive.com/images/entertainment/music/favorite-album-cover/spinal-tap---smell-the-glove-7.jpg

The original artwork was banned by K-Mart and several other box stores only because the album cover was deemed sexist and offensive...

Here's the link the original, concept artwork, as it's posting would likely be banned by FSM too..

http://bryanreesman.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/smelltheglove1-300x292.jpg

And since you posted this:

I like the idea and am gonna do it if people join or not

What's the difference if the thread has a joke or three that you think "stopped being funny"?

I still would like to do that mike, just haven't come up with a good enough idea on how to proceed at least for myself.

Hans, the point is if someone actually likes the idea, looks at the thread and there are now two pages of people just making stupid jokes about 'oh were gonna use this blacksquare.jpg and whitesquare.jpg as our entried hurr durr, they may not be inclined to enter.

I was hoping other musicians would see this thread.  there are always so many discussions about bands and such going on in odds and ends.

If you cant decide... you could go with my idea Fermis, get a few, get a die, and roll those bones to decide.

Ace's High would be a good one too. Not sure I have the skill for that one though.

The main problem of modeling a Maiden cover is it would be so much darn work. That's why I've been kicking around the above idea for awhile. Its about the easiest Maiden cover I can think of. Most of them would require some major figure conversion and sculpting skills for Eddie. Even if this GB does not get off the ground I'll still go ahead with the build. Just need to hunt down a T-80 since the tank of the cover kind of looks like it.

This is why I said it didn't have to be exactly the same as the album cover, just similar.  That Iron Maiden one that was direct linked here a few times would be very difficult, but to get a tank kit and make some custom decals would not be very difficult at all.

I don't plan to participate in the build, but I love the idea! Something different for a change.

Since I cant find lettered die that have indented letters that are the size of die for anything close to a good price for the amount I need I have taken to using the extra die I have and trying to make them, using the dots as a guide and using block letters, I hope it works.

I did the math and it turns out I am about 50 die short, time to go die shopping...
