Three Shermans Dio Ideas

M4A3E2 .... M4A1..... in which european countries these shermans had been used? thanks...

Well Robert once again your knowledge never ceases to amaze me. I knew you would know better than me on those shermans. But thought there might be a couple of the Shermans Johnpo was looking for.

Johnpo..... Well I tried to help you out with my limited knowledge on the Sherman. But like I said in the original post Shermanfreak is the man and from now on I will refer all questions concerning Shermans or the sherman family to him.

That was a great tidbit Rich, my initial research shows that unit trained within an hour or two of my house at Camp Young under Gen. Patton's supervision April to July of 42! Back to scouring the web. If I get a chance I'll hunt down the Squadron book, but I already have New Vanguard and Tanks in detail...any more and I could become johnposhermanfreak! Worse thing could happen. The units TO&E only lists M4 and M4105.

Looking at that picture right now as I type. Of the Sherman variants that I see.

M4A3 (76) W - lots of them
M4A3 105 - one
M4 Early - one
M32 TRV - one
M4A1 Early - possibly one (could be another M4 early)

So out of the kits John has ...... none.

Johnpo,, After reading the post I got to thinking about a picture I saw in Squadrons Shermans in action book. In the very front there is a picture of the 752nd Tank Battalion and if I am reading it right all the tanks you mentioned are in this picture. Now Robert would know better than I and I am sure he would know for certain about this picture as I am sure he has the book. But check out this book I got it to help me with the sherman group build,, and it has come in quite handy.

Thanks Robert, based on your (as always) wealth of information, I wil now do some of my own research. It's kind of neat having the Patton Museum a couple hours from me and this forum in my house! If I get my but in gear I might thow one into the group build. Thanks again Shermanfreak! You da man!

All three of the the Shermans you mentioned were used extensively in Europe.
The last vehicle that you mention, the Italeri M4, is really an M4A3. The kit itself says it can be made into an M4A2, but be prepared to spend a lot of hours doing that conversion.

So back to the subject at hand.
American forces tended (but not always) to group vehicles of the same "drive trains" together to ease the logistics of mechanical parts. So the M4A3 E2 and the Italeri M4A3 would have been used together. The M4A1 would actually be the odd man out by using this rule of thumb. But that doesn't mean it never happened that they'd end up in the same units.
