Go to Scenic Express and take a look at what the carry for grasses. What I use the most are Silfor tufts, a very natural looking product which lookslikes wild grasses, not a golf course. They also make strips of grass which would work great in teh middle of youtr dirt road.

I add texture to my Celluclat by mixing railroad ballast in with the Celluclay. I also add cheap brown acrylic craft paint into the mix along with Elmer's type gule.

Dirt and sand, unless ground exceeding fine, will look out of scale in 1/35. Better to rough up the surface and paint.

Since discovery the stuff at Scenic Express and Military Miniatures Warehouse I rarely use traditional Woodland Scenics static grass or turf products. No disrespect to them, but the newer products are miles ahead, especially in larger scales.

i use the "Fine Turf" size grass from woodland scenics for grass and it looks fine in 1/35 scale.

if you use an airbrush, you can paint your road after you apply the dirt. if using a regular brush, this is what i do: brush the ground color onto the road. then, in an old empty paint jar or disposable container, mix up enough paint (very thin) to put all the dirt in and get the dirt the same color (or even a little lighter would be better) and apply it to the road before the paint on the dirt is dry. the paint will act like glue (not very strong, but it should do) and hold the dirt on the road.

Hope this helps!

Best Product for Grass?

So, I'm making a diorama of a dirt road running through a field (with tanks and figures). I bought Woodland Scenics Harvest Gold Static Grass. Is this a good product for making grass for 1/35th scale? I haven't really seen any pictures with it used. Is there a specific way to apply it to make it look natural?

Also, for the dirt road, what is the best thing to use for dry dirt in 1/35th scale? Just real dirt? Or is there a better alternative.

Finally, should I paint my celluclay groundcover, and apply a bit of Fine Turf under the static grass? Also, should I paint my dirt road before or after applying the dirt?

Any help would be great.
