I've been watching a lot of Evert's youtube videos lately. In this video he mentions seeing plans for a different version on the web, using a negative ion generator, but he couldn't find the generator. If you watch some of his latest videos, you'll notice he's using a different applicator. I guess he did find a generator. He never says where he got it, nor does he have a video of him building the new applicator.
I made one with the ion generator a couple of years ago for a project I'm still working on. Here's a link to the one I purchased. Before I modified mine, I hooked it up and tried it. It's pretty cool! You can feel the ions if you pass your hand in front of the four metal tines.
The applicator works pretty well, but it gives off a spark if you get the screen and wire too close to each other. I've not been shocked, but it would be like getting hit by a Taser. -ouch-
If you watch Evert using his more powerful version, you'll notice that he gave up putting nails in this RR layout, and just holds the wire with a nail in the alligator clip. If he's not careful, he'll wake up on the floor of his basement with a numb hand. He's on the right track, but he should attach an insulated rod to the alligator clip. That way he can keep his hand away from any potential spark.
